Sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talking when I hear the silly things that you say. I think somebody better put out the big light, cause I can't stand to see you this way. To me, when he wants to 'stop her from talking' about silly things, I think that's her trying to rationalize her situation. Her trying to make it seem like everything is ok, but the narrator knows differently and wants her to see how terrible her situation is. She won't let him help her in any way, although she's miserable. She may be too proud or something, but she won't let him help her (My aim is true...him trying to convince her). Which is why he wants to 'put out the big light' because, well, what else can he do? That's the only thing he can do. He cares so much for her and it's tearing him up to see her cry so what else can he do but turn the lights off since she won't let him help? |

I prefer to think of this song as the guy isn't really in a different economic class as this girl, but rather he's putting her on a pedastal. He likes her, so everything she has/does is the best. And then suddenly at the end of the song it turns out that she does like him, and he can't believe it because he always had always thought that she was too good for him. I'm probably wrong, but sometimes I like to use my own meanings, rather than the actual meaning of the song =) |

the song seems pretty clear to me... It's about a girl who is very strong and she helps a lot of people, whether it be her friends or (in relation to the movie) an entire country. But sometimes she needs help too, and she's realizing that there's no one there. She needs someone to confide in but there's no one. |

I doubt this is what the songwriters had in mind, but when I hear the song I always think of thise group of teenagers that are just sick and tired of everything. They want to go somewhere and have a better life and one day they decide to go for it. They leave everything behind and just leave. They don't now where're they're going, but they'll get there soemday. When the car breaks down, I see that as obstacles they have to overcome to get to their destination and they don't give up because 'they started walking' And tey chorus is like them actually getting to their new place. Everything is perfect there and it always will be (at least for them). I see the shadows as their doubts...Them asking themselves if maybe they should've stayed where they were. But the doubts 'don't make it home' because the teens that left are happy where they are and they don't want to go back. 'The children' that woke up are possibly other teens in the area who have it just as bad and they're realizing that, they too, can leave. It sounds kinda like a stretch, but that's what I think of when I hear this song. =D |

This song is about him getting over a breakup. "You gave me words I just can't say So if nothing else I'll just hold on while you drift away" I think she maybe told him she loved him, but he couldn't say it back so she decided to leave. The chorus is him just waiting for her to return. Life goes on, but he's just waiting for her. The next verse he's trying to act like he doesn't care...He's putting on a happy face, but he's really broken hearted. He wanted her back, but then she didn't even notice him, and he decided it was time to move on. The last chorus is him realizing it's all over, and he was right. He didn't need her. She was the one that made the mistake--she left. |

The first guy watches all the movies and celebrities and he just thinks "Man...If only I could be like that..." But the girl in the second verse is like a homeless person. My take is that she's living in the park and she watches people walking around everyday and dreams of being like them, having homes and basically something to lose. I think he's kind of trying to tell us, be thankful for what you have. The kid in the first verse is trying to be greedy, he wants the fancy life. The lady in the second verse doesn't just want something, she needs a home. |

The narrator.main character in the song did something wrong and hurt the person he loved. In the first verse, it shows how he feels really guilty...He can't sleep... Her breathing keeps him awak because it always reminds him that she's there and he thinks about what he did to hurt her. His hearts beats faster and the sinking feeling is the guilt in his stomach. In the second verse he's telling about how he told her lies and he kept his secrets, but everytime he touches her he thinks about telling her because he once again feels guilty. The next verse is he can't figure out if he should be happy beacause whatever he did made him happy, but he hurt his love. He doesn't know whether to stay with her or go on with what was making him happy. That's my take. =) |

I think that there was a couple and they were deeply in love, but he did something wrong and she broke it off and this is a song about wanting to get back together? Like, the first verse is him wondering if she'll be able to make it without his love. The chorus is him saying that he'd do anything for her. The next verse is him saying that hopefully someday she'll let him be a part of her life again. The line "Then I hope there's someone out there Who can bring me back to you" may mean that he wants her to get another man to realize that the love he gave her is irraplaceable. The runaway part is him saying that she's leaving him without hope and love... Then he says 'If I could turn back time' to correct his mistake, and 'If I could make you mine' is like him saying to her "if you would just give me another chance I would to everything right. I would do anything for you" That's what I get from it |
