Franz Ferdinand – This Fire Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I believe the word you're looking for is 'sultry.' |
The Decemberists – The Bagman's Gambit Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This goes back a bit, but the word -is- tryst. And there's a correction that needs to made with 'their' being spelled 'they're.' And on an unrelated note, I like the idea of the song being Cold War-based. Or perhaps just afterward, when the government was still learning to think in a non-MAD paradigm....and I apologize for going all pedantic on you... |
Eagles – Pretty Maids All In A Row Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I see it as the character's recognition that they've lost their heroes; they didn't exist just to mean something to someone else, and now they've moved on. This song is thier follower's realization that things change, and they blame themself for trusting in ideals and not realizing sooner that heroes die. What I want to know is how succesful artists know this and can write something so poignant. |
The Decemberists – A Cautionary Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is quite possibly the greatest "your mom" retort of all time. |
The Dismemberment Plan – The Things That Matter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
These aren't remotely right...I'll correct them when I get the time but don't trust these /|\ | |
The Dismemberment Plan – If I Don't Write Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow...possibly the best song on '!' You can hear the future DPlan in this one- love it. |
The Dismemberment Plan – Sentimental Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I've listened to this song almost daily since I got it...so it's a real surprise that I just realized he says 'fuck.' Just proves one can always look deeper... |
The Dismemberment Plan – Automatic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't know, but here's my best guess- This guy did as much as he could, lived, you could say, for this girl who doesn't seem to realize what he did for her. Or she does, but ignores him as if it was something to be expected. He, then, is completely lost, having given everything he had for what is now a lost cause. Just an idea... |
The Dismemberment Plan – Come Home Lyrics | 18 years ago |
For all its lyrical goodness, this is a hard son g to listen too. It isn't the sort of thing you put on as background: you have to pay attention. That said, the 'People's History' version is easier to access. |
Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"There is water at the bottom of the ocean" -Man, I love rock. |
Talking Heads – This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Really don't want to flame, but who writes out lyrics with a plus sign...? I just think that in a community devoted to true understanding of music, we can be true to what the artists are saying... (sigh) whatever. |
Hoobastank – If I Were You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
U2 hasn't sold out yet...fourteen albums and counting... (including EPs) |
R.E.M. – King Of Birds Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm pretty sure this and other REM songs aren't supposed to have a point- like, they start withone, and then lose it. Or, 81201 above is right, and then the guy snaps and starts shooting people 'everybody hit the ground'...but the music doesn't audibly suggest that |
Nirvana – The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
N0 C0DE, made my day. screw meaning, I think. Don't bitch, I know, its the site...but really, music is relative. See above. |
Yes – Homeworld (The Ladder) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
*sun, sorry |
Yes – Homeworld (The Ladder) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
...right... anyway, I have to say they did a decent job of it- the 'follow the sub' bits and the 'ascending to the secrets' tie in pretty well. That, and even for being a commercially-destined piece, it differs less from their style that 90125. |
Queen – The Prophet's Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
For the record, I'm pretty sure that the lines start with "all" rather then 'Oh," but whatever. and for the record again, Nostradamus is spelled like this. and for the record again, I think the line in the second stanza starts "fretting his hands"--at least that's what it sounds like. It doesn't make sense but maybe the rest of the line is different? Awesome song...It's like "death on Two Legs" but it sounds a lot better |
Tom Petty – Two Gunslingers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I can't beleive...well I can but it just shouldn't be...that no one else has posted on this song. Whatever. It's about how people are forced to do what they don't want and act like someone they aren't, just to be accepted or to avoid being looked down on--"That's the last one/of these gunfights/you're ever gonna drag me to/" It might let down other people but it's better for you as a person--"everyone hissed and booed" I think Petty means this as an allegory; the lines "And there ain't been a gunfight for a long time/maybe never, nobody knowd for sure"-it's lkike he's illustrating an example. Let me know of I'm wrong here. |
Jethro Tull – Skating Away (On the Thin Ice of a New Day) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
nice car... Jethro Tull is definitely underapreciaed for their lurical quality....it's more like poetry (wow, a flue too, even) than rock... |
Jet – Look What You've Done Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I've heard a lot that this is a beatle-like song but I don;t think so...it's more like a slow ballad...kind of like the inside of a person's head when they realize they did something really wrong. They're punishing themself for doing what they really didn't want to, for doing what should bn't have been even an idea... |
Jet – Are You Gonna Be My Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
yeah, you're a locust, a plague on the real people taht make their own opinions instead of following the 'pouplar' culture. Get your own life. Ipod commercials rule... |
Led Zeppelin – Good Times Bad Times Lyrics | 19 years ago |
rambler has the right...um, a right idea... the guitar intro gives a sense of impending occurence...shit yeah... get the led out |
Led Zeppelin – Rock and Roll Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Rock and Roll was originally a term for sex...shock value sold the genre on the name and now it's "noral." God, please don't ever let an awesome song be destroyed by an industry...amen. get the led out |
Led Zeppelin – The Battle of Evermore Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'll do you all a favor and TRY to sum it up: the song references SOMETHING that could be from LOTR (did anyone check the dates?) and also contains awesome vocals in a register most males can't hit...I'm sorry for the kids of those who can...(except me). Hte song is great because it uses itself in a way that completely immerses the listener in the world of the music,,,and that's what the goal of any art is(look up Joseph Conrad's PREFACE TO THE NIGGER OF THE NARCISSUS if you have o argue with me.) get the led out |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 19 years ago |
SOX '04 was a fluke and tey know it.. not really but watch them lose all teir free agents and not make the postseason next year...speaing of posts, I think I have to say that this song IS overplaye, where it is played, and that it starts to serously kick ass when thay start screaming at "and as we wind on don the road..." awesome lyrics even if they don;t mean anything/too much/whatever... get the led out |
Led Zeppelin – When the Levee Breaks Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Screw the history of blues, the song rocks and tere's probably only like one other song that can bring that kind of Ble riff from a rock band... I don't know what I'm saying, sorry, it's early... |
Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think the topic is certainly the Norse warriors, duh, but the song itself is designd just to be a rocker. Come on, you know that screaming AAAAAAAAH-AH! makes you want to break something... |
Led Zeppelin – Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Awesome guitar intro...it's one of he few things that will wake me upp in the morning...lol... get the led out |
The Beatles – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this goes back aways VAST334 "WHENS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW NEWSPAPER TAXI'S APPEARING ON THE SHORE" um...how do you think orders of foreign papers get to the US? we aren;t the center of the universe...think laterally... RHCPROX, try some of the really eary stuff, like pre-invasion |
The Beatles – Doctor Robert Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Paul said in a book that when he thought about this song it was more about a doctor that solves all your problems via drugs...e.g. "If you are down he’ll pick you up, Doctor Robert, Take a drink from his special cup, Doctor Robert" anyway thought I'd throw that in... |
The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Interesting theory...but I don't beleive it at all. If it were about a prostitute, there wouldn't be so many references to church...and although music (and the Beatles) are notorious for not being simple to explain, I think this is relatively straightforward: E.R. is a wasted, washed-out shell of a person who doesn't belong anywhere, and ends up being just another person among the dead. Father M knows it and, strangely for a father, doesn;'t care, 'wipes the dirt of his hands.' |
The Beatles – Can't Buy Me Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
NO, Dammit, it's not about whores! (Effing sick society...) |
U2 – Vertigo Lyrics | 19 years ago |
catorce IS 14, .. and I think (but) the internet game, t-shirts, apparel etc for one song is a bit much seing as there's almost nothing dedicated to the rest of 'atomic bomb...but thats just me. |
Rush – Natural Science Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I cna't believe no one has posted on this yet. I think this song is the ultimate relax music, not like their other stuff, but Live in Rio and Vapour Trails both show this song as a balld almost sung to the sciences. I think the meaning of it is more at 'back off investigating the world, learn to love it' naturist-type dal, but it's inherently felt and has as much passion behind it as the harder-core RUSH songs. |
Rhapsody – Emerald Sword Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think the best interpretation of their music was written on the sleeve of their greatest hits...yeah, they have one. "Epic Hollywood Metal" Epic in the sense of the lyrics, Hollywood for the sound, it's mind-blowing, and metal...um...it's metal, not much to say there, é? |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – American Ghost Dance Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Don't want to disagree with anyone... There's a book by Kurt Vonnegut jr called Player Piano that deals with a US in which people have no function and bring back the Ghost Shirt idea to fight a revolution. I don't know the song but having read the lyrics and knowing the topic, i figured that I had to connect it to something for pepole. |
Peter Gabriel – In Your Eyes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I had the same opinion of this song as TasChiBandGirl until I heard it performed along with the message at my church...(the cover band we have is awesome) I think that the interpretation I was presented with there makes just as much sense: the person is upset with life, wants to get away (drive off in my car) but eventually (come[s] back to the place you are) 'you' here meaning God and support. The person wants desperately to be a part of God, as their (instincts) indicate originally, but they can't handle everything that God has done for them-(I don't like to see so much pain ) and they find it hard to accept that. Eventually though, they feel complete and (look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive) The song makes a lot of sense this way, and it gives a more realistic view of Christianity, from the human perspective. [also, there's a typo...it 'working so hard for OUR survival'] |
REO Speedwagon – Back On the Road Again Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think tihs song is about someone having to leave home to avoid 'the man'- almost like in Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. He says at one point "we both know the life I'm living and we both know te reason why" definitely implying that it's one of those 'elephant in the room' sort of things. REO writes a lot of music about people communicating or trying to, much of it one-sided, and this is the same way. |
