this song means a lot to me because sunlight is the most beautiful mind blowing special thing there is. and i despise lights because they resemble sunlight in no way so i udnerstood exactly what eh was talking about. its a girl whos maybe fucked up and shes dating a guy and she leaves. he tries so hard pulls harderthan grvaity but shessunlight and shes gone. and he gets another girl its distraction but its not real. this girl was sunlight beautiful and unbelievable. you can turn on every light in the house but it will never be as bright or glow as much as sunlight will do. im feeling empty (shes depressed has problems?) the real lights sunlight can make you heavy but never ever really equal empty flourescent lights will always equal empty. sunlight as life hes messed up too but she choses to go out and experiences thigns anyway and he choses to distract himself. or maybe she is going out into the world and wont take any emdication for her problems and he does to solve them and acts like thigns are fine. because the real lights can make you heavy but never ever really equal empty. the most beautiful person can be a disaster- can make you heavy- but will never be empty like any random non descript normal person and also life can be havy but youll still feel things on mediation or with distractions youll never feel. i dont know. i cant explain it. because i know the difference between sunlight and a light bulb. and it makes a world of difference to me. the music in this song is also brilliant. |

its rememebr the sounds remember the smells remember the colors this song just is about how all those important places and things (like motifs) that were important in your life disappear. ice cream stores are torn down and they build condos. hes just reflecting on the sadness it brings and detachedness. are you sure its tv state my momory? that makes more sense with the song. but. still i liked stained because this is how i feel about losing all my peopleand places and objects from my life before right now. and all i remember is what i think was there what people say and talk about what was on tv and radio. not what actually was. |

the moon and antarctica is one of the darkest i have ever heard from modest mouse. this song is very heavy. in the beginning its very creepy, the flies gives the impression of rotting like youre dying or stuck in one place. its like this person is depressed who he cares about and its not really his fault but he didnt really do anything about it. the devil fed me a line....not drugs but like the phrase feed me a line like gives you something to say. maybe using it as a double meaning. a drug addict stuck ina rut and hes the person who got them to try it? i think its a very sad song very depressed . cos i dont want you to be alone down there to be alone down there to be alone its sad but mildly optimisitic i feel like its a love song of some sorts. just the fact i dont you to be alone down there. really emphasizes those lines (well its typical modest mouse to make the chorus very strong and intense) but really its the focus. |

| i love this song stef had it right but something needs to be said about the music. the end of the song is some of the most BEAUTIFUL music i have ever heard. truly. it sounds like finding a car crash in the early morning in the grey fog when its run off the road into dark pine trees and brush and how it looks at 6 am with the tired cops and firefighters and you know the person died. as setf said its about emptyness and the part with the lyrics is is rushy catchy but then goes into this long sad empty stretch as if reflecting on the loneliness of what happened and that strange detached feeling. | |

most beautiful song i have ever heard. favorite band. good news is the worst. long drive is the best. this song i think is the basis of the whole album. this cd deals with so many major feelings or loss and lostness. the title os the cd is this is a long drivefor someen with nothing to think about. this is the first track and the real mind blower on the cd. dramamine ses a long drive as a reference to life. travelling swallowing dramamine drmamaine being a anti nausea drug like just going through thigns trying to get by feeling spaced when youre depressed its not that you feel sad you feel numb and a lot of your thought is just whats around you youll focus on the color of a cartoon charatcers hair on tv, breathing out listerine feels sharp to him, its definitive. deceit and secrets, a disaserous relationship maybe with life in egenral or a girl...anything. i still cant focus on anything...being lost. cant find what youre doing. we kiss on the mouth b ut cough down our sleeves..acting one way but really its a facade. look at your face like your killed in a dream a let down... the following lines as if hes breaking the news to somone who thought they knew what was going on but not. maybe this girl? most beautiful song ever. the music is unqiue creative and works perfectly. it reminds me of washington state which was interesting because i found out much later they are from seattle. led zepplein did this modest mouse does as well...get very creative in the middle or end of song. it seems only classical music experiments with change of sound and melody but modest mouse (as did zeppelin) would just get very creatve and interesting. a song doesnt have to end when youre out of lyrics or have to be completely about the lyrics at all. every single song on this album is genius. |
