Kanye West – Diamonds from Sierra Leone Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
I had heard that Kanye West was "intelligent" and that he actually rapped about more than sluts and expensive, tacky items; so when I saw that he had a song out titled "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" I was incredibly excited, I have studied conflict diamonds and it's an issue I feel very strongly about.
When I first listened to the song, I didn't think I heard anything about blood diamonds, second listen produced only the line "Take your diamonds and throw ‘em up like you bulimic". I was pretty irritated, but just to make sure that I hadn't misheard, I came here and saw this, which showed even shallower than I originally thought I had heard. Please don't tell me that I am the only person that is totally appalled by this song - it seems to me he's trying to cash in on that whole deep and meaningful rapper image without putting the effort into actually writing deep or meaningful lyrics. He can write whatever the hell he wants, but the title is totally misleading and his apparent cashing in on the tragedy associated with the misery and death of countless men, women and children is DEPRESSING. I can't be the only person that sees the outrageousness of this song and it's title - since he wrote a pointless, cliche song about sluts, cars, and a regurgitated rags-to-riches story, he should've titled it appropriately and left off any mention of Sierra Leone. Perhaps he's more clever than I'm giving him credit to be and there's some ironic tone to this song I'm not seeing, but I highly doubt it. Even if the song is put out in a sarcastic tone, the majority of people listening to this song aren't going to get it, and the song won't raise any awareness to the crisis in Africa. Overall, this is false advertising to the greediest degree. |

I feel like really killing the whole crusades idea by pointing out that there were no guns in medieval times.

I saw Atreyu at Warped Tour in Denver and they played this song, and said it's about growing up. =\ Not sure I understand that, but that's what they said. |

im im literate.
Hmm... I'm sure there are plenty of people on here saying they don't like it just to rebel against Simple Plan, and then also plenty of people saying they don't like it because they really DON'T like the music, or message, or both. I fall into the later category. I could give less of a crap what is trendy or not, Simple Plan has no talent, lyrically or musically. I will respect your musical taste, ut when your band sticks out as a disgrace to music, I will complain. |

Funny how the only literate people that have commented on this song are repulsed by it. Every other comment is some incomprehensible bullshit about how much they "lyk" it. |

Apparently, both literate and illiterate people alike, enjoy this song.
It's good, it's a response to TBS's "There is no I in Team", and nobody cares about your personal life. Come on, more songMEANINGS, less autobiographies, please. |

Yellowcard – Something Of Value Lyrics

Not usually a fan of Yellowcard but my friend introduced me to this song a little while ago and I like it. I like how it's whole vibe is "Ok she hurt me, she's not someone that cares for me, I'm gonna get over it." It's not overly dramatic like most songs about getting hurt are today. |

This song is inherently stupid because the narrator is implying that he is the only person on earth who suffers. Even dumber than "Perfect".
Wake up little pampered preteens, EVERYONE struggles, and alot of people struggle alot more than you. If you have the money and capability to buy this crappy CD, you're probably not off that bad. |

Chronic Future – Stop Pretending Lyrics

Only one comment? Very catchy song, but very good. So what if they put in elements of rap and pop in their music? They pull it off, and they pull it off well. Corny-ish lyrics as always, but mainly true. Pretty straight-forward lyrics. |

I think this band is gonna increase in popularity soon. Good, good band. Maybe this song isn't necessarily about one object, like a girl or drugs or government, but about one type of relationship with any object? |

*whine whine* I'm an angsty American pre-teen that has every luxury a kid in a third world country could ever dream of but somehow I still think my life sucks. I eat up the turds the music industry drops out for me and connect with every song that bitches and moans about how hard life is. Oh no my parents don't understand me... no one understands my pain! *whine*

This song is obviously about a manipulative girl. Basically a girl that uses her looks to take advantage of guys and screw with them, as said before. Pretty good song, but the lyrics posted are really screwed up. Strung has em right. |

What a beautiful poetic song. Even if the song is from the bible, I can still relate, with wanting revenge on someone that has hurt someone close to you. |
