U2 – I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics 19 years ago
The song is about looking for something in your life that completes you. Not about a woman or god exclusively! The reference to a woman is that as good as it is to be with a woman that experience still doesn't complete his life. The reference to God "you broke the bonds and loosed the chains, carried the cross and my shame" means that despite all the grounding and support that religion gives him, he still hasn't found what he's looking for. Something very self evident with U2's shifting and evolution in music. They're constantly trying to find a better way of reaching people.

U2 – I Fall Down Lyrics 19 years ago
Simple song. You say you're going to get up and go somewhere, but there's alway the time when you fall down.

U2 – Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me Lyrics 19 years ago
My favorite line from this song is "They don't know what you're doing. Babe it must be art!" lol

U2 – Gone Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is definitely a self-critique by Bono. Pop (the album this song is from) was at the height of their self-indulgence, individually, and as a band. The line "what you thought was freedom was just greed" is very revealing. What began as U2 attempting to transform themselves from far too serious band to fun glitz rock stars, went way too far.

U2 – God Part II Lyrics 19 years ago
I always thought that as much as Bono loved John Lennon, he always found some hypocrisy in the music and ideals, and he even devotes a line to himself here when he says "I don't believe in riches, but you should see where I live". Ultimately the only thing that you can still believe in after all the crap is love.

U2 – Gloria Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree. I'm not religious, but Gloria is so powerful it calls you to believe and surrender to faith. Fantastic song!

U2 – Elevation Lyrics 19 years ago
I think people take this song way out of context. To me this is just Bono singing to his fans about how they motivate him and if you haven't seen "Elevation" live then you're not going to get it. If you're looking for U2 songs about sex, I suggest you go listen to Babyface or Lemon...

U2 – Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
To me this song always meant that when things are black and the stars are falling down, all these things that are going bad around you and you're getting really mad. There's a fire! Something that makes you call out.

U2 – Dirty Day Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is deceptively simple. I think this is about Bono's father, but even if it isn't, I can identify with it. I remember things one way, when my father was in a haze and can't remember at all (alc/drugs). Making excuses for everything and pointing the finger at everyone but himself. No blood is thicker then the worthless ink that signed the birth certificate. Wake up, you can't avoid responsibility. I'll take these experiences with me when they put me in the ground.

U2 – Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car Lyrics 19 years ago
This song just blew me away as did the whole Zooropa album. The sounds and the lyrics all point to something very sinister.. The notion that Daddy will keep enabling your habits until the very end. Zooropa was the "Channel Flicking" Zoo TV album of disassociation and numbness where you've seen everything and felt nothing. Daddy is at the centerpiece of this apathy. Awesome song!

U2 – Babyface Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with the previous post and I wouldn't be surprised if this was written about Naomi Campbell who Larry Mullen, Jr. was seeing at the time. It fits. Model going round and round...tin foil hair, etc.

U2 – Angel Of Harlem Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm amazed this song had only 2 posts on it at the time I'm writing. For those who aren't familiar with the story, Bono heard Billie Holliday on WBLS at the beginning of their 86' tour in NYC and was inspired. Typical of the entire Rattle & Hum record, I think this song is really a love song to Amerikana in general, and Billie Holliday in particular. One of my favorite songs where every part of U2 is rocking: Vocal, Guitar, Bass, and Drums.

U2 – A Sort Of Homecoming Lyrics 19 years ago
Something I forgot to mention in my previous post is that I grew up in the US till I was 10 and when I finally got to go home to the USA from Israel I played this song all the time. It really had special meaning to me to be leaving the bombs, bloodshed and tears behind and to be going home.

U2 – A Sort Of Homecoming Lyrics 19 years ago
I knew this song was about Ireland, but living in Israel in 8 years I could understand the perspective. I felt it was a metaphor for people and the land being tired of a conflict and in your heart you wanted to go to a better place. So even if it wasn't a physical place, it still existed in your mind. Hence "A Sort of Homecoming".
