I actually prefer this version to the EP version. I think the performance sounds very thin and unemotional on the EP as compared to this one. What an accurate song this is.

I have a sense this forum may erupt into flaming chaos shortly, but I'm going to put my two cents in anyway. I hate the arguments between the Pedro-as-Christian and Pedro-as-emo fans. I see them all the time, on Pedro site forums, on here, at shows even. It's sad, really... doesn't sincere music glorify God regardless, as michaelaxmwyx pointed out? As for this song, I find it incredibly depressing. I can see it in people I know and on a societal level. The idea that a guy is thinking about divorcing a woman but can't get up the nerve to say it, and tells her he loves her instead is... wow. Depressingly realistic. First Pedro song I ever heard. I love it.

Why aren't there more comments on this song? Seriously, these are some of my favorite Bazan lyrics ever, they're so perverse. David has said that they were all written from that first line. The song seems to pretty much be about a man's revelation about the way he has led his life framed by extremely strange circumstances. I love it.

I agree with all the people who love this song. You know what song I think has the same kind of vibe, although I think I'm going to get all kinds of hate for this one... "Fred Jones Pt. 2" by Ben Folds. As for the emo debate, I wish it would just go away. Does anyone remember how everything started getting called "alternative" in the 90's? Emo has become the same way, it's a name for anything and everything, including things its pioneers would've hated. That's not saying it's not great music, it's just saying it's not a very useful label.

Yeah, I mean it's pretty much all been said. I think if I had known about this song when I went through something of the sort, it might not have led to such good things, because it's such an accurate depiction. I think the depression might have gotten a little too deep listening to this song at that time, and I'm glad I didn't discover Pedro til several months after the fact. That said, it really is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Actually, this song was based on the script to a movie that was never produced. Many of the themes discussed here were supposedly prominent in this movie. Neil is now talking about doing a rock/theater type thing like he did with Greendale using the original After the Gold Rush script as a premise.
