| Thank you to Jemma for mentioning NOFX's part in this song. If it wasn't for NOFX (and a Simpsons episode) i never would've gotten into Don McLean. The American Pie album is amazing. Obviously i loved the song 'American Pie' long before i heard this song, but the NOFX cover and the fact that the original was played over the credits of a Simpsons episode (can't remember which one) paved the way for me to buy the 'American Pie' album. I know this has absolutely nothing to do with this song (which is so obviously about Vincent Van Gough), but the songs 'Crossroads' and 'Empty Chairs' are worth checking out if you like this song... | |

I think MrTragedy is on to something. 'Dirty minutes' could be some kind of reference to porn mags. They're usually kept under mattresses. There's loads of different ways of referring to male masturbation. One of them's "Shaking hands with the one-eyed milkman", which could uncover the meaning of the line 'My time is spilt milk' (i.e. spilt semen). "My skin is a layer of soot. I'm spending my days scrubbing" is probably something to do with the idea that occasionally you do something that makes you feel so dirty that no matter how hard you scrub in the shower, you still feel as though the 'dirt' is still on. You're not actually covered in dirt, you just feel as though you shouldn't have done what you did and are trying to clense yourself. It's usually after doing something that isn't socially acceptable, such as excessive masturbation. That's the rant over with, now for the good stuff. Jizzlobber is such a cool title... |

I read somewhere that the 'linoleum' reference is due to the classical singing at the beginning (you have to turn up the volume to hear it - it's very quiet). They have something similar at the beginning of linoleum. The 'shadows of defeat' part is referring to the fact that the rythm of the base in the song sounds similar to that in a song called Shadows of defeat by Good riddance. |
