The Decemberists – From My Own True Love (Lost at Sea) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song could be related to Bob Dylan's 'Boots of Spanish Leather', which opens with the lyric: "Oh, I'm sailin' away my own true love" If you read the rest of the lyrics to that song it makes a lot of sense. |
The Decemberists – The Mariner's Revenge Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song could rival Dylan for storytelling. |
Iron & Wine – Each Coming Night Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Perhaps the best song on this album. Everything about it, melody, music, lyrics, are brilliant. |
The Decemberists – Eli, the Barrow Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The saddest song I've ever hear. Hit me like a ton of bricks first time I heard it. |
The Decemberists – Eli, the Barrow Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The saddest song I've ever hear. Hit me like a ton of bricks first time I heard it. |
Bob Dylan – Maggie's Farm Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I always thought it was about a slave; as in Dylan was putting himself in the position of a slave. Maggie etc are the owners a slave run farm. That was just my interpretation and I'm pretty sure it's wrong. elephant range sounds pretty sure about their meaning so I won't doubt that :p |
Pearl Jam – All or None Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeah, its about life. Going around in circles, having to fight the same battles over and over, but still trying to get away from them. |
Pearl Jam – Low Light Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't know why, but to me this song has always sounded like death, but in good way (?). It just sounds like someone dying very peacefully, and this is what's going through their head at the time, looking at the clouds etc. I don't know, to be honest, its just how it sounds to me. Am I imagining things or did Stone write the lyrics to this? |
Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it's about Elliott's fame and herion addiction: "the game looks easy that's why it sells" singing about being a musician "the method acting that pays my bills keeps the fat man feeding in beverly hills " he's playing the part of the rock star ('method acting') and his pain keeps the record company bosses rich The 2nd verse is nearly all about herion addiction as far as I'm concerned, the "needles" on the tree to the "skinny santa" and also "open your parachute and grab your gun" is about the rush it gives, but it's suicidal. I think the "hell of a role..." is about the aforementioned 'method acting', while the "intrusments on a silver tray" is a pun on musical instruments/needles. Just my interpretation! |
The Cranberries – Zombie Lyrics | 19 years ago |
People from Ireland should recognise instantly that this song is clearly about the NI troubles. The 1916 reference is the give away. "It's in your head", I assume, is about the IRA's continued 'war' against the British forces when, realistically, the war ended in 1921. |
Elliott Smith – Everything Means Nothing to Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't know about the first verse, but to me, the second verse seems to be about how he's fallen apart now, but people woreship what he used to be. |
Pearl Jam – Long Road Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Eddie Vedder, Neil Young and Mike McCready doing these at the 9/11 tribute was incredible. |
Pearl Jam – Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
There are no official lyrics to this. Ed just happened to sing those one's when they were recording it.ED just leaves it open to interperation. So you're all right! |
Pearl Jam – Immortality Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song was debuted live before Kurt Cobain's death, so it wasn't originally about that. However, after Cobain died some of the lyrics were changed (eg "cigar box on the floor") |
