Benton Falls – Like Portraits On Walls Lyrics

My God. Such a beautifully emotional song. Everything works so perfectly, and the words are absolutely amazing.
"with hollow lips touching hollow hands
over time this will end"
"sometimes my life has got me down
but guilt beats hate and you turn it all around"
I used to turn this song up loud and just put it on repeat when I needed a good cry. |

10,000 Maniacs – Eden Lyrics

I love this song. I think it's about trying really hard to work through problems in an interpersonal relationship, and the narrator envisions what things could be for the individuals in the song but they can't grasp it. |

Kate Bush – The Sensual World Lyrics

I love this song, if not just for the repetition of "mmh, yes." It's based on Molly Bloom's Monologue, the last bit of James Joyce's novel Ulysses. Such a sensual song. |

Kate Bush – Hounds of Love Lyrics

Kate Bush IS God, duh. The Futureheads killed this song. It's about trying to move forward in a relationship, but the narrator is afraid or unsure... but I remember Kate said once that "two steps on the water" is saying that she's ready to commit and she can't step back out like she can on one step. It says something about this on GaffaWeb. I've always found that line strange, but her explanation fits well I've found. |

...and what's with the moderators editing out God... I wouldn't mess with that man... he can edit YOU out.
Honey, many Jews, especially those from an Orthodox background, choose not to defile the name of God and therefore do not write it out the way others might. Some do not even say "God/G-d;" others will choose to use an alternate, like El/Elohim/Adonai... there are many different names for God/G(o)d/G-d in the Jewish faith. It's very similar to never writing out the full name of the tetragrammaton (YHWH/YHVH/Yahweh/Jehovah)... it's just a matter of keeping the sanctity of G-d's name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_God_in_Judaism This might explain it better than I'm able to. |

It's about someone who is brainwashed by what others tell him/her... A tool, essentially. I think in this case, the media/government (considering it was written during the Reagan era). |

Well, I did my research... The original lyrics (talking about "liberty war bonds") definitely make it apparent that she's talking about WWII. |

xod, a lot of it actually resembles how one could describe a bad trip. Smith himself said it was about drugs. |

I know exactly how this feels...
"I hate myself for loving you and the weakness that it showed..."
and then, the end...
"I hate myself for loving you, but I should get over that..." |

Personally, I think the first emo band WAS an Ian MacKaye band... Embrace, anyone? (Not the brit-pop band, either.)
As for "Teen Age Riot," this song rocks. |

Simon and Garfunkel – America Lyrics

This song is so incredibly beautiful. I think it IS about the American dream.
Oh, piece of trivia - Paul Simon's girlfriend at the time was named Kathy and she was British, so it makes sense. See also "Kathy's Song," quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The arrangement of "America" is easily better than that of "Kathy's Song", though. |

spokexx -- I have the same image... Essentially. Two lovers in a snowstorm. One is holding the other. That's pretty incredible. I also see other visuals with it, but it could be the synesthetic talking. Also, I heard Year of the Rabbit's version. It's saved to my other computer. It's really a great cover, but nothing close to the original. |

This song, as far as I can tell, is pure syllabic nonsense. I don't know. But it's some of the best nonsense I've ever heard. This is easily one of the best songs on 'The Wishing Chair' (I don't own 'Hope Chest') next to "My Mother the War" and features some of the best musical craftmanship I've heard. Plus, it's fun to dance to. |

Well, I think it's about the Vietnam War... How everyone was initially supportive but it ended in grief and dismay for millions of Americans. This song is incredible, and the video is phenomenal. |

He uses references and METAPHORS... It's not necessarily about that... It's about his ex-wife Sara, with whom he was having some hardships at the time 'Blood on the Tracks' was released. Incredible record and song. |

The Cure – Plainsong Lyrics

I heard it was about a lover that's dying...
I suppose you can get that out of it...
Regardless, this song is beautiful... Heavenly. It's my favourite song ever. It kind of flows into "Pictures of You", which some people say continues the storyline of death of a lover, but Robert says otherwise about POY.
I think "Plainsong" is basically about eternal love despite the obstacle of death... You almost get an aura of protection... It's hard to explain, but this song is positively ethereal! |
