The lyrics in this song are like the dialogue in a play. They say more about the characters than the writer. So, the over-the-top analogies are not sloppy songwriting, they are merely a tactic used by the boyfriend (and if this is the kind of drama she has to put up with, I don't blame her for finally leaving) Also, I don't think that the girl is a bitch. I can definitely see her side of it. She just realizes that nothing is really going to change and doesn't want to prolong the pain. I think her factual approach is the only way to deal with his melodrama. I love this song. I think it is beautiful and clever and true, and I think The Postal Service is an excellent and unique band. |
