Dream Theater – Octavarium Lyrics

Well, after just listening to the song again, I noticed something else. Before the part:
"sailing on the seven seize the day tripper diem's ready
jack the ripper owens wilson phillips and my supper's ready
lucy in the sky with diamond dave's not here I come to save the
day for nightmare cinema show me the way to get back home again"
you can hear, if you listen closely, someone saying "Is this where we came in?" This is something from Pink Floyd's "The Wall"...the first song had "...we came in?" at the very begining and the end of the last song had "Is this where...". It was sort of a circular message. Very cool! |

Very awesome song. A few things I noticed. In the first stanza of III, there seem to be a few refferences to other songs.
"sailing on the seven seize the day tripper diem's ready
jack the ripper owens wilson phillips and my supper's ready
lucy in the sky with diamond dave's not here I come to save the
day for nightmare cinema show me the way to get back home again"
I'm sure there are more than just these, but I spotted "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" (that was obvious), then 2 Genesis songs, "Cinema Show" and "Supper's Ready."
The best part...I have no idea what this means. |

Peter Gabriel – Love To Be Loved Lyrics

One of PG's best songs...I think it's very powerful, and I can really relate to it. As for meaning, it's fairly obvious: It's about longing to be wanted, loved, and being alone. |

Dream Theater – Just Let Me Breathe Lyrics

This song is an all out attack against the forcefed pop music that exists in the mainstream. Basically, they're saying that don't bother thinking about what you like...people will do it for you. Note the references to Cobain (who was exploited by the music industry) and "eMpTyV" (obviously meaning MTV...but I think it was like that so to avoid legal issues). Great song! |

Ambient? No way..you have to listen to it with full attention.
I'm not quite sure what this is about...possibly about being scarred from a relationship, or something like that. I don't agree with Anra. Very emotional. |

I'm not quite sure what this song is about, but it seems that it is about someone is some type of institution...
Very beautiful. |

Peter Gabriel – We Do What We're Told Lyrics

Yes, it was an experiment provoked by the American additude that Americans wouldn't blindly submit to the will of their government if it was wrong, like the Germans had done in World War II.
Interestingly enough, this all came together for me in sociology class...we were talking about Milgram, and I was like "Woah! I get it know...Gabriel is a genius." |

Queensrÿche – Anybody Listening? Lyrics

I believe this song is about how the public simply accepts what they are told, even if something radically different is actually happening. Basically the message is along the lines of "think for yourself, question authority." It could be applied to religion, sure, but I think it deals more directly with the government and the media. Awesome song! And so appropriate for these times... |

A good song...I like the touch of humor. It's pretty obvious what it's about...becoming a rock star. |

Dream Theater – The Great Debate Lyrics

Actually I had gotten the impression that the band was pro-stem cell research, though they didn't flaunt that around. But this line makes me think that:
"Turn to the light
Turning away would be a terrible mistake"
They try to just present both sides of the argument, which is well done, but that line makes me think that they are more pro-stem cell research. |

Wow...this in an incredible song. I just wish I knew what it was about. I think it's something political, but I'm not sure. |

Peter Gabriel – Secret World Lyrics

Gabriel has explained that this song is about "when a couple becomes so close, that bits of them disappear, into a place called the secret world." So that makes me think that it's about, no matter how close you can be with someone, there is still a part of you that is hidden, secret. |

Porcupine Tree – Stop Swimming Lyrics

I think this song is just about someone realizing their life is directionless...maybe even pointless. The last verse makes me think maybe that person is sick of the directionlessness...and opts for suicide ("I'll leave now this can't continue...I'm happy to leave by the window"). Just a thought. |

Roger Waters – Watching TV Lyrics

I think DarkSide came close, but I have a slightly different view. I think it's more about how a death shown on TV makes people all pissed off and stuff...but it's entertainment. We like to watch other people's pain (like when the parents of some solider are brought on CNN, eyes full of tears). What a good song... |

The Who – I Can See For Miles Lyrics

No, I don't think that's right. In the song he's accusing his girlfriend of being decietful/cheating...that doesn't seem right that Pete would do that as a "warning" or whatever. I think it's just about a guy knowing that his significant other is cheating on him. Nothing extraordinary. |
