I don't know what this song really means but to me it seems to be about a lover who has died. Probably from a degenerative disease "I watched your tail lights blaze into nothingness." My favorite verse is

I think if you've seen the movie it works so perfectly because there's the point in front of the fireplace where Andrew finally breaks down and tells his story and then Sam says "you're in it right now." and then at the end he finally decides to start feeling his life and the line you're too busy writing your tragedy, meaning he was too occupied with the tragedy of his life to see what an incredible thing he had in front of him. See the movie. Its amazing. |

This song is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, I cant believe no one has posted anything about it before. Taken at face value I think its about a man who's restless about what will become of his life and he has this person ( a girl probably) who's telling him to be patient "and you say, be still my love" but he doesn't hear her. She loves him but he's just waiting for something to happen to him instead of the monotony of his life. It could be taken lots of ways, but its really beautiful all the same. |

I'm not very religious but when I first heard this song I thought that it sounded like the first part was God and then the chorus and then the second part was man. After the video it seemed like it was about someone he loved dying, but I think you can apply it to either meaning. |

This song is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. It reminds me of unrequited love, a person loves but gets no love in return. "Lover alone with love." If you've ever been in that situation, you know how it tears at your heart. If you've seen the movie Magnolia, you know the line: "I have all this love and no where to put it." That is what this song identifies in me. |
