Arctic Monkeys – Crying Lightning Lyrics 10 years ago
Definitely think you're right on with this...and it makes a ton of sense that it would be about Alexa given the timeframe...perhaps so much that it's completely wrong, but fun to speculate. Her "past times" would be referring to the guy she was dating before him who was 20 years older than her (and she was early 20's)...couldn't blame Alex for thinking it "strange and twisted, and deranged". It makes it seem that it's about him trying to be turned off based on that past, his preconceptions of her, not wanting to date a famous person and all, but nevertheless he's still finding himself really infatuated.

Arctic Monkeys – I Wanna Be Yours Lyrics 10 years ago
Really beautifully done. This is actually a poem written by John Cooper Clarke. A teacher read this poem to one of his classes which Alex was in, and Alex was really blown away by it. So awesome that years later they've now turned it into this track.

Cold War Kids – Miracle Mile Lyrics 10 years ago
Also think this makes a ton of sense, and also really saw the role model point of view. The punchline struck me as wondering , once it's become a career and you're drowning in work is there still some of the fun there was when you first start out to make it all worth doing.

The Hold Steady – The Bear and the Maiden Fair Lyrics 10 years ago
Catchy and fun interpretation of the song! This is a song from the A Song of Ice and Fire books and Game of Thrones television show. A popular song, usually sung as a merry drinking song. In the books, symbolic of relationships between Jorah and Daenerys, the Hound and Sansa, and Brienne and Jaime.

"Coulda shaped heartaches" should be "cutter shaped heartaches". That way it is:

Tracey island, time-traveling
diamond cutter shaped heartaches

Sara Bareilles – King of Anything Lyrics 13 years ago
arlash is correct. Sara was on my local radio station yesterday and explained what this song means (also gave an awesome performance of it!). She said when she was working on the material for this album she started to share what she came up with within her "inner circle" (assuming management, record label, etc.). After being given the new material they pretty much ripped her apart, criticized, didn't bother to see where she was coming from, so she wrote this song as a response to their criticism.

The Fratellis – Baby Fratelli Lyrics 14 years ago
I always kind of thought it felt like "Baby Fratelli" was one of the band members' younger sisters. Kind of why she always seems to be hanging around and they put up with her despite all the issues she has, which based on the references seem to be on a level in which they're more familiar with her and her antics than just some random girl.

Stone Temple Pilots – Between the Lines Lyrics 14 years ago
Like it a lot. Was hoping they didn't try to make some back-to-grunge or recapture a sound they haven't done in over a decade. Going to be a solid album.

A very vivid picture of how he suffers alongside his wife when her autoimmune disorder flares up. His songwriting talents are incredible.

Incubus – Talk Shows on Mute Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree that 1984 seems to be a reference to the novel, not going back in time or to Reagan or anything. I think it's actually saying to ignore the political commentary and think for yourself, or pick up a book. And hey, some of those political news anchors are more endearing with the sound turned off...

The Fratellis – Baby Fratelli Lyrics 16 years ago
asdlkljn makes sense. The "eyelids" line is probably a replacement for "eyelashes". As in she was "batting her eyelashes" at him, which just means she was flirting, and "got no eyelashes" means it wasn't working.

The Kooks – Always Where I Need to Be Lyrics 16 years ago
Though I doubt the video portrays the meaning the song, which seems to be pretty self-explanatory, I got a different feel of it from the video.

"She don’t know who she is,
Oh,I can take her anywhere,
Do whatever comes naturally to you,
You know she just don’t care,
You know she just don’t care,"

Take this as talking about any random person, that really is just meaningless in the big picture, which is the band. Or even take it as lines added to the new non-acoustic version. Then watch the video-the rest of the words make it sound like the "you" is the band itself. It's like the guys trust in each other as friends and bandmates. Even if they have differences or someone strays away, they know they're held together by a bond.

The Starting Line – Direction Lyrics 16 years ago
Seems to talk about Kenny's life around the time Based on a True Story came out. He went from the short bleached hair to the really long dark hair, posted a story on the website saying he really didn't care if people didn't like it, and really seemed different from the fun, free-spirited kid he had been. This song is about how, despite thinking he had matured and people would have to deal with it he had to later admit was just going through another phase.

Arctic Monkeys – The Bakery Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's pretty self-explanatory, and you guys got it. Also, take note of this part:

"why not the rounders pitch or the canteen
you're slacking love, where have you been?
Just had to go and wait until tonight
so give me the invite"

Notice how he sees her at the bakery and post office. Not exactly places to meet new people. As these lines say, he would like to see her out drinking and having fun somewhere, where she would be more approachable.

The Format – She Doesn't Get It Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't think the New Religion by Duran Duran reference is about an age difference...it's just about being unappreciative and ignorant of classic and meaningful things. By saying it was before she was born he's just implying she's the type that keeps with the trends of the time, including the music, so she had no clue what the song was.

Hellogoodbye – Touchdown Turnaround (Don't Give Up On Me) Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's about a girl who is really flirty, or at least flirts with him. She's really hot but he's convinced she's pretty much a whore, by how flirtatious she is or because she pretty much wears a whore's uniform. He then finds out that she has morals and wants to ask her out because she's a nice person and really hot.

"Every night I see you standing on the corner shaking that thing like you're playing pop warner"

"Would you turn me down if I'm not what you're looking for?"

These lines are him presuming that this girl is pretty much a slut.

"I never knew you (don't give up on me)"
"I never knew you threw so hard"

He finds out either from hanging out around her or through connections that she is not a slut at all

of Montreal – Suffer for Fashion Lyrics 17 years ago
To me the line "We've got to keep it physical" sums up the song. I think it describes a relationship based on physical attraction, wearing appealing clothing, and nothing really deep. "Please call to say you miss me, feel me, or whatever..." also sums that up as being a relationship that probably will never become deep and meaningful, but it's like he could have met this girl by recognizing her from across the room as being his type.

The Flaming Lips – The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song (With All Your Power) Lyrics 18 years ago
feedthegoldfish and thihihi seem right on to me. It's not a knock at a certain group of people alone and it's questioning the way human beings think in general, not their political views.

No matter your viewpoint, it's pretty difficult to tell what you would do in a situation. Someone who says they would share all of their wealth would possibly just make excuses about how they don't have enough to share or believe that they worked hard and want to give everything to their heir. Someone who says they wouldn't give a dime of their fortune away may give it all away to researching a disease they lost a loved one to or to people who helped them when they needed it most.

The "yeah yeah yeah yeah" and "no no no no" are like a flood of common thought. If you could watch everybody work would you? A lot of people would be fine with it, but there are people who need to see everything through themselves or people who just need to be working and contributing. If you could make your own money would you horde it all? Even if you were counterfeiting you might want to slip some money to try to help someone who needs it...someone needs to be put in a situation to see how they really think.

Jack's Mannequin – Holiday From Real Lyrics 18 years ago
None of the references in the song have to do with Andrew having leukemia. He wasn't diagnosed until right before the album came out. And "an eighth" is a common phrase for an eighth of an ounce of weed. If he said a gram or something he would be talking coke.
