The Format – She Doesn't Get It Lyrics

The girl sings "do do do" and in the singer's mind he hears the song "Hungry Like a Wolf." Nate then says he prefers the song "New Religion" (which is the next track on the album Arena by Duran Duran released in 1984.) But she doesn't get it, it's not her generation/"wasn't born." The girl seems too young and too unoriginal but still something draws him in... I want to know what is "the poster of a cat" a reference to? I donno, the myspace theory is just crazy enough...

The Format – The Compromise Lyrics

Yeah, seeing them perform in DC changed the song for me too. They didn't really explain it outright. But it was implied. And they way Nate sings it, you realize the biting sarcasm. Label's say "we'll agree to call it the compromise" but if you disagree there's "no sense in complaining" because "there's someone else in line" and to a label, you are expendable. But they'll say it with a smile. It's sad seeing passion take second place because they are a business to make money. They are massive promoting machines. What sacrifice are you willing to make to reach the masses?

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Aeroplane Lyrics

I'm gonna echo someone else's suggestion "the star of mazzy must, Push her voice inside of me" as well "One note from the song she wrote" make a pretty strong reference to Mazzy Star. the release of One Hot Minute in 1995 fits that Anthony might be referencing one of two early 90's albums by Mazzy Star. So while the song is still very likely about doing drugs, loving music and escaping his life...it's a little less general. It's his specific trip/escape which in this case means hearing the voice of Hope Sandoval.

U2 – One Step Closer Lyrics

I'd say having a repetoire as deep as U2's would leave you to the likelihood of doing something that sounds simliar. i'd say in some cases it could be intentional for the purpose of concerts. If you make a good riff, use it again in another song as an allusion and it's a great way to tie two songs together live when you're jamming out. Bono def doesn't have to prove himself to anyone on any front, especially not musical orginiality. He's got the lyrics, the voice, the stage presence, and importantly, real live social action.

Our Lady Peace – Bring Back The Sun Lyrics

my first impression was it just didn't fit on the album. but seeing this song live brought it to life for me. the only other inside tip i got from the Central Park perfomance in NYC was saying how they recorded this song in one take. that's intense! it's got a really different sound from most anything else they do and it's simple but beautiful power grows on you. sad cuz people reading this probably already love the song. wish more people could give it a chance.

Our Lady Peace – Right Behind You (Mafia) Lyrics

i was priviledged (and crazy to drive so far) to see OLP play the acoustic set in NYC in 2002. during the show Raine mentioned the alias for the song Mafia had a deeper meaning. It was actually him venting about being watched by the record label every step of the way and the control they impose at times. It's kind of an antagonized song if you think about it. It's not a regular OLP edge, but a more abrasive one expressing that frustration of being under the "mafia's" thumb. You can interprete it as you like of course!! =) I see it both ways. Def not the computers angle though. That was a stylized facade for the album theme.
