The Long Winters – The Commander Thinks Aloud Lyrics 17 years ago
The song IS about the Columbia. It's hauntingly beautiful without knowing the back story, but when you tie the lyrics in with what happened, let's just say I like this song for a good cry.

The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics 19 years ago
They don't blatantly steal anything, what I've heard of Mum is not all that similar to The Postal Service, and although computer aided music will tend to have similarities, you're stretching.

I love the song, and D.C. doesn't stand for Death Cab, it's set in D.C. because that's where he wanted it to be, and Chicago sleeps alone tonight doesn't have the same poetic quality.

The Long Winters – Shapes Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually it's "angels, russians, where I fear to tread" according to the band's website.

I listened to the interview, and I think he's saying that you need to be more present, you can't just fake it, and throw a shape.

The Long Winters – Scent Of Lime Lyrics 19 years ago
The third line is "my part in your art is just to be there"

This song seems like it should be sad, but just the way John delivers the lines makes it uplifting in ways.

The Stills – Yesterday Never Tomorrows Lyrics 19 years ago
Such a peaceful and easy song, and I think it's mostly about heartbreak, a relationship ending that he wanted to keep together, but nothing lasts forever.

The Weakerthans – My Favorite Chords Lyrics 19 years ago
"it's here in the smallest bones the feet and the inner ear, it's such an enormous thing to walk and to listen" the immense poetry in relating those two things is just awesome i love john samson.

The Flaming Lips – Fight Test Lyrics 20 years ago
There was indeed a lawsuit and while I don't have an article handy it was in Rolling Stone awhile back do some searching you'll find it. Cat Stevens (yusuf islam) is getting part of the royalties, and it's not loosely based, the chord progression and melody are overwhelmingly similar.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Pin Lyrics 20 years ago
this kinda seems a little darker to me, like there's something more than just sex. like she likes it but he controls her with it. that's what i take from pushing in the pin, plus it could be an overly sexual relationship thus "things are feeling thin"

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps Lyrics 20 years ago
she did actually cry in the video and the interview refered to was in spin, i read it too, it's about a long distance relationship. maps just refers to distance.

Death Cab for Cutie – The New Year Lyrics 20 years ago
I've had many new year's like this, I believe he sees it as an uplifting event, but he wishes he was with his significant other, that's where the folded map comes in, he wants to be close to her on New Years.

Rhett Miller – Things That Disappear Lyrics 20 years ago
the correct lines are
-"and she was honorably carrying on"
-"and put him out of her memory"
i love this song, makes me sad, it's about the permanence of love i believe and how everything else doesn't really matter, it makes me sad, it sound like leaving.

The Jealous Sound – Anxious Arms Lyrics 20 years ago
I always thought it was about losing one's virginity.

The Jealous Sound – There Is Hope For Us Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't think he's hurt or at least that's not what I get. I think she's gone through something horrible and he's comforting her. Also I think it is an example of distant relationships. "Did you celebrate without me" a feeling that many have had when being apart from loved ones. I'm partial to the line "You were matches and kerosene."

The Postal Service – Nothing Better Lyrics 20 years ago
The third quarter line doesn't make sense for another reason, no matter what the third quarter isn't that dire, it's not nearly as important as say a fourth quarter. anyway i've learned to live with that, by the way there are postal service music video's so Apple Shampoo, there goes that argument. Here's my question if your just going to bash the band or song why do it at all, I mean I like this song, I can relate to it, I've head more than a few girlfriends, I don't need you to tell me it sucks, cause to me it doesn't. The song is about deep lyrics, it's about imagery, all vivid imagery, "crack my ribs and repair this broken heart" really makes you see the pain. my two cents.

The Postal Service – Clark Gable Lyrics 20 years ago
"i need you too pretend that we are in love again and you agreed to." I think the song is about his last love being good, and he thinks that if he can just make it a movie it would be perfect. Oh and to the person who said ben gibbard sings out of tune and without emotion, are you a singer, cause you really sound like someone who has no idea what they're talking about.

does anyone know what the lyrics are behind sleep tonight, what the guitarist says?

Death Cab for Cutie – No Joy in Mudville Lyrics 20 years ago
"Casey at the Bat" is a poem about an unbelievable baseball player in the last out of the ninth inning who strikes out. "There is no joy in mudville today, cause Mighty Casey has struck out." It's about failure even when you have everything going for you.

Ladytron – Seventeen Lyrics 20 years ago
I had a girlfriend once who thought it was about the porn industry, and child pornography, they want you when you're ripe and illegal, but when you're old enough you're too old.

Ladytron – He Took Her to a Movie Lyrics 20 years ago
I believe it is about a love triangle but i'm not sure the middle girl is bi. I think she's straight, and although the lesbian does all these things for her, she just doesn't see it the same way.

King Missile – Sensitive Artist Lyrics 20 years ago
This is simply about being tired of the current scene and people who have become so wrapped up in their coolness that they can hardly function, but hey they're sensitive.

Death Cab for Cutie – Technicolor Girls Lyrics 20 years ago
The lines about the parking lot refer to fights, the teachers bend the rules by not breaking up fights after school in the parking lot. It was always the bikerack when I was younger.

Elliott Smith – Say Yes Lyrics 20 years ago
I think it's about a relationship that ended but not really, and they ended up together again, even if just for one night and it's about that period of time where it's still good and there aren't questions like what do we do now? It's almost like he's pleading to her to try with him again, to make it work. Just my interpretation, I could be projecting.

Death Cab for Cutie – Lightness Lyrics 20 years ago
The song is about lust yes but more than that it's about trying to control and reject that lust thanks to societal teachings. "Ivory lines lead" refers to the tears in the fabric, he's watching them lead up her legs to oo wha-ho for a lack of better terms.
