Dropkick Murphys – The Gauntlet Lyrics

Of course there were air raid sirens, because there were possible air raids. They have nothing to do with mines or shells. And I never said anything about armored vehicles. I said mines and shells would be impractical because the war zones were so crowded. |

The other rats aren't necessarily drug addicts, but just other comatose patients. One definition of gestation is conception or development of the mind, so it refers to the mental journeys and enlightenment he gains during the coma. |

Actually, none of the members of DKM are from Ireland, and they have always been very good about writing what they know about. And since they wouldn't know firsthand about the IRA and Ulsters being from America, I highly doubt this song is about that. Also, in the first stanza: "All I hear in the distance mines and shells/Here come the sirens wailing another attack to be repelled"
The civil war in Ireland is comprised of urban warfare, and mines and shells would not be of any use in the streets of a city, especially since members of both sides live all over the place. If you pay attention to the line about sirens, you will remember that sirens aren't used in infantry combat, they are used to notify cities of incoming air raids. So this song is most likely about one of the World Wars. |

Those are the traditional lyrics in the version with the Dubliners. "Kilmagenny Mountain" should be "Far-famed Kelly mountains." |

I remember reading on the site or lyrics program from their site under this song something along the lines of "the sad thing about the state of the world today is that nobody can take a joke." This song is just a joke. |

Irish inferno...if you know your heritage like you pretend to, you should know how to deliver a proper Gaelic curse. It's not "Pog me hone," it's "Pog ma thoin." |

Being a skinhead does not mean you are a racist; that's just an inaccurate generalization the media has been making since the skinhead movement started. They have been around longer than punk rock. It started in the late 60's/early 70's with British football fans who wanted to be involved in something other than the Mod movement that was going on at the time. |

It's Dropkick Murphys, it was only released on single. I forgot which one. It doesn't sound like them because this it was recorded before Al Barr was in the band. They used to have this lyrics and tabs program to download from their site, and this song was on there with a note that it is a joke. |
