Neko Case – Wild Creatures Lyrics | 2 years ago |
I think the 4th line should be, “Just right from the sight” |
Roots Manuva – Clockwork Lyrics | 5 years ago |
Corrected lyrics: Don't care bout no fad, I do my own thing ... I told you both through, fight through the bleak Clench my teeth dweet, ends often meet ... You down for rebellion, left-handed crough we embrace the minellium [sic :)] ... You front like you be scholar, Smith* smells pretense ... That I wear with knuckledusters, taking out these frauds in their clusters Three by three, five by five How would you describe this left handed loony Toony votoony, dance gatecrasher -------------------------------------------------------------- *"Smith" is Roots himself, AKA Rodney Smith |
A Perfect Circle – The Contrarian Lyrics | 5 years ago |
Pretty sure the line is “As warm and calculated as heroin,” not “As woman calculated...” |
A Perfect Circle – Delicious Lyrics | 5 years ago |
This seems to me to be addressing the Republicans in power and their ultimately doomed fight against progress. |
My Brightest Diamond – Be Brave Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Pretty simple: she's singing to herself (she's Shara Worden) to give herself courage. |
My Brightest Diamond – Bass Player Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Uh, I don't know how my comment got mixed in with the lyrics, but what I meant to say was these are the correct lyrics: **************** Bass player all alone Makes a sound most wouldn’t call a symphony As he plays thinks of a maid sad and shuffling She sings, "Blow me a kiss before I drown in sorrow Blow me a kiss before I drown" He saw her by the moon Dress in hand her hips were swaying Melancholy tune, broken buckles, tired lips Ooh, she was singing, "Blow me a kiss before I drown in sorrow Blow me a kiss before I drown in loneliness" She said, "I want to be with the stars tonight so I can fly above the earth" "I want to be by the stars tonight so I can fly above" "I want to be with the stars tonight so I can fly above the loneliness" *********************** |
My Brightest Diamond – Bass Player Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Bass player all alone Makes a sound most wouldn’t call a symphony As he plays thinks of a maid sad and shuffling She sings, "Blow me a kiss before I drown in sorrow Blow me a kiss before I drown" "Laundry"?! He saw her by the moon Dress in hand her hips were swaying Melancholy tune, broken buckles, tired lips Ooh, she was singing, "Blow me a kiss before I drown in sorrow Blow me a kiss before I drown in loneliness" She said, "I want to be with the stars tonight so I can fly above the earth" "I want to be by the stars tonight so I can fly above" "I want to be with the stars tonight so I can fly above the loneliness" |
Tom Waits – Georgia Lee Lyrics | 13 years ago |
One of Tom's songs that makes me cry. |
Tom Waits – Watch Her Disappear Lyrics | 13 years ago |
One of the most erotic songs ever written. |
Sinead O'Connor – You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It reminds me of something a woman would sing to an abusive father. |
The Novel Ideas – Julian Carax Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is very clearly taken from Carlos Ruiz Zafón's novel, The Shadow of the Wind. Julián Carax is one of the book's main characters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shadow_of_the_Wind |
Annette Hanshaw – Lovable and Sweet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I know a version with different lyrics, also sung by Annette Hanshaw: Da dum ba dum Da dum ba dum I'm not lonely Da dum ba dum I've got a real man What an ideal man now Da dum ba dum Da dum ba dum He's the only Da dum ba dum Person I love, Has all of my love and how Talk about your perfect lover And you couldn't help discover That he's that way, lovable and sweet He's candy Has he got the arms to thrill ya Lips to sing, to whisper "Will ya?" And he's that way, lovable, Just six-feet-two with eyes of blue Oh, gee, oh, gosh Whenever we're all alone Oh, gosh and oh, gee What happens is simply too good to be known Bubbling over with affection Satisfying to perfection Is he that way, lovable and sweet Talk about your nifty dresser What a lover! Some caresser! Is he that way, lovable-ble Ba doo doo doodle doodle doo doodle doo Do I know just what I'm getting When it comes to real love petting Is that way, he's so Ba da dum, ba da dum, ba doodle doodle do His touch Is such That I simply lose control His kiss Oh, what bliss! It weakens the heart but it strengthens the soul And although he's such a nice man Could he out-love any ice man! Yes, he's that way, he's so... He's very lovable and oh so sweet! |
Mark Lanegan – Skeletal History Lyrics | 13 years ago |
These are the official lyrics (there are a few small differences that change the meanings of some of the lines): Oh, an artery is not a vein No history can tell My skeleton won't tell Why some Like moths, draw To the surgeon's drill And bloodshot hits to marrow The snakes eaten through her clothes and Her charms have won me over DaGama breached this lofty reach Balboa left his bones upon the beach Left there to bleach A rose breaks in my fingers Pulling nickels through the stem too much has took it's toll Smoke crawls low along the ceilings And all is quiet But I keep listening (they come to kill me) oh she just left, you missed her go on home the sex theater is closed cracked mouth, too dry to drink at least the sand is cold you wish the sea would drown the freeway instead, girls stare in dead-eyed wonder they can't walk for fallen soldiers used by cops and fucked inside abandoned boarding houses go on fast before the beast catches the bastard dragging a chain down, down, down who'll say it no one else is here, come on nothing to believe is to be blessed, come on who's laying low, you said weathervanes, no bones to be good or bad the death of me just make it quietly oh who knows my sister can't anyone admit the fact that they infected her she said the sun was gonna burn and blister my blood godspeed god love her farewell honey yeah no mourning son'll move her no hellbent amen or hallelujah prayers are for the dead left over the breached never to reach that sandy beach poor baby girl's gone under to each their own grave buried in underneath abandoned boarding houses sidewalks and streets sidewalks and streets though my skeleton won't tell some can see why moths draw to surgeons' drills and blood shots hit the marrow |
Woven Hand – Twig Lyrics | 14 years ago |
David Eugene Edwards has said in interviews that this song was based on a plainsong written by St. Ambrose in the 3rd Century. |
Cass McCombs – My Sister, My Spouse Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The phrase "my sister, my spouse" comes from the Song of Solomon ("You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse. You have ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck" -- Sos 4:9) and there is no incestuous connotation for the phrase. From the Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary, "By the term "sister," carnal ideas are excluded; the ardor of a spouse's love is combined with the purity of a sister's (Isa 54:5; compare Mr 3:35)." This song seems to be about consuming love, healthy or not. |
Sinead O'Connor – In This Heart Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Simply beautiful. The harmonies are incredible. |
PJ Harvey – Joy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is based on a short story by Flannery O'Connor called "Good Country People," about a woman named Joy (or Hulga) who has a wooden leg and who lives a miserable stifled life. The quotes in the lyrics are taken directly from the story. |
The Gutter Twins – All Misery Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song reminds me a lot of Brother Justin's storyline in the show, "Carnivale," down to all the religious imagery, the parental problems, the apocalyptic imagery, and the true love who's a flower seller (forget-me-nots, lilies, roses, and....irises, perhaps?). |
The Twilight Singers – Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is an old English folk song, believe it or not. |
Stevie Nicks – Maker of Birds Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is the story of the Welsh myth of Rhiannon and her husband Pwyll. Rhiannon was said to have with her three sweet-singing birds whose song could put the living to sleep and wake the dead. The Lord of Death in the song is Arawn, king of Annwn, the underworld. |
Neko Case – Look for Me (I'll Be Around) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think she's saying "I've a notion my devotion you will need...", not "I'm an ocean..." Hee! |
Tom Waits – Dead and Lovely Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Ack, I was wrong -- it is "problem" and not "profit". Damn. I have to say I like my version better. :P |
KMFDM – Bargeld Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't speak German, but the title makes me think of Blixa Bargeld, one of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds. |
Tom Waits – Dead and Lovely Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The line should be, "This is one business in the world where there's no profit at all," not "that's no problem at all". |
M83 – Teen Angst Lyrics | 15 years ago |
On second thought, maybe she's singing, "Keep on"? |
M83 – Teen Angst Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't hear "teen angst" in the chorus, either. It sounds just like "Tina" to me, just like in "Don't Save Us From the Flames". (I mean, listen to that second syllable -- she's just singing "aahhhh". There are no consonants at the end of that sound.) On the other hand, the first syllable doesn't sound like it starts with a "T" -- I seem to hear "K", as well. Weird. |
The Gutter Twins – Circle The Fringes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The last verse is: Start the wheel turnin' On it, break me Shown things I ought not have seen Hung from rafters- Mothers screaming Born into an ugly world |
The Gutter Twins – Idle Hands Lyrics | 15 years ago |
From the official website, the lyrics are: My idle hands- There's nothing I can do But be the Devil's plaything, baby And know that I've been used Her lips are cold They suffer me They drag me under, baby Into your suffering Let your hands Do what they will do Stand inside Make your Maker's move And your eyes don't look the same They seem enervated, in denial Cast like stones- Like you been rode for miles My eyes have seen They have been shown This is an Occupation To Stand alone I suffer you- You suffer me We are the Devil's plaything Into this Reckoning |
The Gutter Twins – The Stations Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think the last lines are "Love, thy will be done." |
The Faint – Fulcrum and Lever Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The second and third lines should read: The laws of gravitation were in abeyance awhile. "Abeyance" means "a state of suspension". |
The Shivers – Beauty Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"i swear to god i'm loving you for that" should be "i swear to god i'm loving you for life" This is more prosaic than rockerbabe's interpretation, but I understand "beauty, beauty, beauty, there's nobody near me, there never was," as the narrator addressing the woman he's singing about. She's the beauty, and he's telling her that he's alone and unattached, so they're free to be together. I kind of sense a warm smile in his voice when he sings that part, so that's why I think the ending is just sweet rather than bittersweet. |
XTC – The Forgotten Language Of Light Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I want to know who transcribed this and how long it took them. |
XTC – We're All Light Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yet another lovely song from XTC. :) |
Type O Negative – Who Will Save The Sane? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Is there any other song that namechecks Avogadro's number? That's flipping brilliant. |
Type O Negative – Christian Woman Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is so insanely blasphemous, it's hilarious. "Her soul done medium well" slays me every time. |
Failure – Another Space Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is the one song I could play on repeat all day and never get sick of. It's just perfect. |
Placebo – Taste In Men Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't get a love triangle vibe either. I imagine that Brian/the narrator is addressing a guy who hasn't had many same-sex encounters/relationships...maybe the narrator and this guy used to fool around, and now the narrator is trying to persuade him back for another round. I also think this song would be super hot if covered by a woman, esp. one who is comfortable playing around with gender roles, like PJ Harvey. |
Tori Amos – Icicle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The official review of "Under the Pink" on iTunes claims this song is about molestation and rape. Um, I don't get that reading at all. I think it's about *good* things, sexual awakening and discovery in childhood, religion, and love. |
Placebo – Protect Me From What I Want Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Oops, Jenny Holzer's Survival collection, not Truisms. |
Placebo – Protect Me From What I Want Lyrics | 17 years ago |
shesapirate87 is correct -- that "PROTECT ME FROM WHAT I WANT" billboard/LED screen was designed by artist Jenny Holzer and was part of her Truisms collection (see here: http://www.humboldt.edu/rwj1/104i/231.html). |
Neko Case – Ghost Wiring Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To me, it sounds like, "You haven't lost me." I love how gentle her voice is when she sings, "Why can't you be smarter, girl? Lift up your face." |
Sinead O'Connor – I Am Stretched on Your Grave Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is actually a centuries-old Celtic ballad, also known as "The Unquiet Grave." You can find it in _A Celtic Miscellany_, and it's been covered by a number of artists, including Dead Can Dance and Eden. |
Cop Shoot Cop – Ambulance Song Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Absolutely brilliant lyrics. "And the clouds outside your bedroom windowpane / Resemble crippled children limping slowly 'cross the sky" -- that's poetry, man. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Three Peaches Lyrics | 20 years ago |
When he sings, "I'm so happy you didn't die," in that voice that sounds anything but happy...I get chills. Every time. Chills! |
PJ Harvey – Working For The Man Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Who knows what the song really means, but I like to imagine it's about the angel of death, "the man" being God. |
