Billy Joel – The Downeaster 'Alexa' Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I was at a live concert 2 weeks ago...and he said he wrote this song for a fisherman who used to use his dock on Martha's Vineyard. He went out one day in a storm and never came back... |
Green Day – Holiday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
oh yea, and i think there should be a correction to the line "Triumph by fires, setting fire It's not a way that's meant for me Just cause Just cuz we're on holiday " i think it should be " Just cause; just cause because we're outlaws, YEA!" i could be wrong though the music kinda drowns that line out |
Green Day – Holiday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I hate songs like this solely for the reason that it gets people fighting. I like green day casually and actually think holiday is a very well written piece of music. My political mindset is that, well, they're almost all assholes and out to get more power and money so its no use being staunchly one party or another. But back to why I hate songs like this. Play it once, and nobody cares about the music--there's an immediate air of political tension, right squaring off against left with us political cynics in the middle of it all. But then, if i dont like it, i should just not listen to it. Overall, i'd rate this song good if used sparingly (somebody said something about a repetitive riff...that's good in small doses). I just hope Green Day gets another album out soon so people stop fighting. |

OK, I know it's pointless to argue, but if you're looking for a criticism of american politics, go see "Holiday". "American Idiot" is a criticism of american media. |
Dashboard Confessional – Am I Missing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I've never heard the song, so I only have a general idea of the meaning, but to me it seems like two things: one, someone talking to someone who died, and two, what someone would think after they are dead. The first stanza is the living guy, asking his dead friend if his life was worth it. He is wondering about his life, whether he lived it to the fullest, what he could have done different. Then one part of the second stanza asks if there is anything worth anything--worth living or dying for--since in the end we're all going to die anyway. The other part of the second stanza is the dead friend, wondering about how he died, since it probably happened too fast. Really loose estimate...again, i've never heard the song, only seen the written lyrics. |
