If i were to pick out anything it would be the lines miasnape chose. What a star. |
Rufus Wainwright – Dinner at Eight Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I agree entirely with what you have said. Maybe the reason for the lack of comments is that there's really nothing more than can be said about this, besides the song itself. Both the meaning and sentiment are clear. What i find most appealing about this song is what you mentioned about the brutality and lovingness of it. I think it reflects how a lot of relationships can be where there is a lot of passion and a strong bond. I think this is captured most beautifull in the lines "But 'til then no, Daddy, don't be surprised If I wanna see the tears in your eyes". The fact that rufus says such a cruel thing, and then directs it towards his father using a term that is usually connected with adoration and love is gorgeous. |
Rufus Wainwright – Crumb by Crumb Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love the female backing part in the chorus, it's so lovely and smokey. |
Rufus Wainwright – Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love this song. Especially in the reprise when he slams some beats into it. I think it works well in both versions. A little bit Tower of Pisa Whenever I see ya So please be kind if I'm a mess Lovely. |
Rufus Wainwright – California Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I know what you mean megggan. To me, it's almost like he says, "California?! Please?" as in "Please don't joke". |

Rufus Wainwright – Pretty Things Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Rufus Wainwright – Rebel Prince Lyrics | 19 years ago |
awesome song |
Elliott Smith – Pictures of Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Most of this song seems to hint at fame sucking. "so sick and tired of all these pictures of me", he sees all these pictures of him everywhere, and people always create pictures of people through words etc, and maybe some of them were, "completely wrong, totally wrong". "jailer who sells personal hells who'd like to see me down on my fucking knees" Those lines remind me of the media, who make money out of people's "personal hells", making them feel desperate. "everybody's dying just to get the disease" - So many people wants to be famous, and he is referring to fame as a "disease" |
Alkaline Trio – The Exploding Boy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I Like this song a lot, and i like the original. I'd love to hear them sung together. heh. Ummm, I think 'Enjoy your day' is incredible also. |
Alkaline Trio – You're Dead Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is so bitter and sad. I can't relate to it directly, but it makes me feel sorry for the people I know that can relate to it. |
Alkaline Trio – Standard Break Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I just love how he says that "you" are sayingc "its fixable, a classic case, lack of will", and then he proves the person perfectly correct by saying "I dont wanna try, Id rather sit here all night." It's cute. |
Alkaline Trio – The Exploding Boy Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I don't care if this is about taking back sunday or not. I always thought it was about a relationship, and all the "cocky" stuff is him being ironic, that maybe this girl has said stuff about how he's a big star now and thinks he is great and he just wants money "i think in decimals in dollars". But he's saying he really has no idea what he's all about, and that maybe there is a rockstar-type side of him, but it's all a front. |
Jets to Brazil – Conrad Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I don't think it's about abortion, but it may well be. And i'm not sure about the scarred face, or paralysis, although there's no reason at all why it couldn't be that. I just think it's probably about two sides to her personality, or that she was never as happy as she made out to be. But eitherway, this song is beautiful, and incredibly sad. |
Jets to Brazil – Mid-Day Anonymous Lyrics | 20 years ago |
My friend said to me that he thought this was about terrorism and america, or something like that. With guns and stuff. "mid-day anonymous when guns find their purpose, end of the country, the end of the century". And also, "the sheep begin to drop. i think i'm the son of what's before and what's to come". But i absolutely love this song, just when he's singing "seven stars! seven stars! the kingdom is ours, the stairs the light the street the blue and whites". It's so exciting and yay! |
Jets to Brazil – Sweet Avenue Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I had never really thought about this being solely about smoking, i thought maybe that was just a little sidenote of some sort. Eitherway, this song is incredibly beautiful. I really love it. My favourite bit is "soft and sweet along your lips now, I go "oh wow"." I remeber the first time i heard this song i was in a train coming back from london, and i think i almost died when i heard him sing that line. |
Jets to Brazil – I Typed For Miles Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Well ja, i agree about the writers block, and self doubt "I have been kissed between the ears by human error" But with the whole love thing, it seems to me like he's trying to maybe block out some memory of this girl, and he is trying to do so by writing, and he's just writing and writing until he forgets. "they're playing love songs on the radio tonight, I can't relate to that right now". It's just so bitter, he's just really angry with this one person, and he's trying to concentrate on writing...but he can't. Because in the end, he just kind of rolls onto a different track with the "you keep fucking up my life". I love when he says "note to self : no one cares." |
Jets to Brazil – ******* Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Wow. i had never made the connection between this and mid-day anonymous. I guess maybe because i had never counted the stars. I think this song is adorable. |
Jets to Brazil – Your X-Rays Have Just Come Back from the Lab and We Think We Know What Your Problem Is Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I love this song, especially the first verse. "maybe some day we'll meet again when our two roads hit the same dead end and o-oh i'm counting the days 'cause you've got something that i've never since seen a willing heart and a part that's clean we're both good at counting days" I figure it's about missing somebody who you rarely get to see, but that you always wish was there. Or perhaps about somebody you don't think you're likely to see again, but you hope you do. That's what it feels like to me. It's just like so many jets to brazil songs though, i don't know, it seems like some kind of clever riddle. I think one day i'm going to figure exactly what all these songs mean. |
