I think eggorox is pretty close, though interpretations are subjective. It's most certainly a concept album about the end of the world, however the world is never defined. Maybe it's the earth, maybe it's a really fucked up relationship, maybe it's the loss of someone near to you, maybe it's an addiction consuming your life, maybe it's about war, etc... Any of those things can make life as you know it cease to be and make you feel that everything is ending. Just food for thought. I came to this conclusion after trying(and failing) and trying(and failing) again to end a destructive relationship. However I'll never say with any certainty that's what the album is about as it's highly subjective. As an aside, don't forget Fury. When you tack that onto the tracklist as the closing track rather than Ruled by Secrecy, the album gets really depressing, because it essentially leaves you knowing that whatever is causing your apocalypse will win in the end. |

Pretty much this. I know someone who lives their life in a manner very similar to what you described and it breaks my heart. This song reminds me of her, but all you can do is watch as he/she self destructs and falls apart. brilliant song |

I'm going to have to jump on the NWO/America/Illuminati-ish type interpretations on this song. Everyone knows that Maynard's lyrics have several meanings, and that one is the one that means the most to me. I saw APC live tonight here in Atlanta and they performed this song second. In the first song (Vanishing) Maynard was singing behind the curtains so that the crowd could only see his silhouette. Then when Pet started the curtains fell down and he was singing behind a life-sized cardboard cut out of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The next song was Weak and Powerless, however, after singing behind Arnold he told the crowd how he felt with the current state of affairs and promptly "renamed" Weak and Powerless to, "You're not going to fuck with us anymore" (or something very similar, I can't remember the exact name he used). So, take that as you will. |
