Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics | 13 years ago |
To me it's about sex as a rock star. I particularly like "I asked your name you asked the time." Because she already knows his name. Captures a lot in a little. |
Sufjan Stevens – From the Mouth of Gabriel Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Could also be Abraham singing to Isaac |
Built to Spill – Fling Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think there's a double meaning in "it takes me a long time to come to the memory of us" |
Misfits – Bullet Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the first person part is Danzig singing about himself. His sexual fantasy with Jackie O after the assasination |
Radiohead – High and Dry Lyrics | 18 years ago |
my favorite interpretation is someone growing up, and like people said trying to hard to be something |
Built to Spill – Else Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree that song is saying quit searching for "something else", but I think that it is saying it in a dissapointed tone like "wow this is really all there is." It's being pessemistic about a better (love) life with greater meaning. the musical feeling of the song is sombre, plus there is loads of negative imagery: not being able to stand up, realizing you're less smart than what you require other people to be. In regard to the last line, I think that by saying "JUST THIS SIDE of love" implies that it isn't quite love which changes the meaning to being sombre again, recognizing that you can't get the actual thing so might as well make due with second best. |
Built to Spill – You Were Right Lyrics | 18 years ago |
not relationships just relating to music through life |
Against Me! – Baby, I'm an Anarchist! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
do you really fucking get it? nooooooo noooooooooo noooooooo nononono |
The Good Life – Some Bullshit Escape Lyrics | 18 years ago |
hahahah |
Built to Spill – Else Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think "Finally I don't mind Worthless tries at finding something else" realizing you can't find love and finally not minding the little superficial relationships that happen instead. "Best not talk to loud You're not as smart as you require of them" having high standards but feeling like you don't fufill the standards yourself "Your body breaks Your needs consume you forever" always needing someone else, a significant other having that take up your life "And with this LIES the need To be here together" it think it's self explanitory keeping in mind the line it's coupled with "funny thing with blood.." yeah circulation, I'm not exactly sure how it relates. maybe just trying break out of the routine, it also works on a literal level - lying in a persons bed not being able to get out. "Just this side of love Is where you'll find the confidence not to continue" back to the first line, in something not quite love you find the confidence to settle with superficial attempts this song reminds of Cursive's "the recluse" same kind of idea |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
just to reiterate Anne Frank was not burried alive she died of typhus. it's a metaphor |
Grandaddy – He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I like to think that 2000 man is the stranded astronaut from everything beautiful is far away |
Brand New – Seventy Times 7 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
uhm a brick in the small of the back is not subtle at all i don't know about you guys but if I got hit with a brick in my back I would notice it completely. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Different Names for the Same Thing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I thought this song was about language barriers in your own language. I'm kind of dissapointed that he was talking about a foreign country. oh well |
Elliott Smith – Everything Reminds Me of Her Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i was saying no: drugs, yes: love |
The Decemberists – The Mariner's Revenge Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
attn warmgun: "Our ship's sole survivors" "I shipped to sea With a privateer" "And the captain quailed" "The crew all was chewed alive" the mariner is not the only person on his ship |
The Decemberists – On the Bus Mall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
there are a few clues to the characters being male: "slept in sundays" "your brother was so cruel" "two easy targets" "sucked OUR lips into our lungs" "kings among runaways" but the definitive answer is the picture in the album booklet |
Against Me! – Baby, I'm an Anarchist! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I also always took this song as a big satire. Pokeing fun mostly at narrow minded anarchists (not to say that all are). This view matches other songs such as Those anarcho punx are a mysterious bunch and cliche gueverra as a title |

Just because you came across it, and lost it make this into drugs |
Cursive – The Radiator Hums Lyrics | 19 years ago |
hmm. what I don't understand in regard to the italics is that the lines "this house is the hole that you could never fill, with rose-blossomed bouquets, vanities and love seats" is in Italics, but seems like something that the male would say to the female. maybe she's saying it to herself? maybe tim's into vanities? |

Alkaline Trio – My Little Needle Lyrics | 20 years ago |
NO! definatley heroin. you all suck its a black and white song no debate. |
Alkaline Trio – As You Were Lyrics | 20 years ago |
my favorite of their songs. I think it's about him being at a party, dead drunk trying to impress a girl. She slips on his throwup he was half hoping she would so he could start a conversation or what have you. "I would give anything to erase the last 9 years of my life" is just thrown out there. kind of emphasizes the whole pitiful deal no? |

I don't get "the squeeking of our skin against the steel" other than that this is my favorite off Transatlanticism the best part is "and it's strange... |
Death Cab for Cutie – A Lack of Color Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think it's just going along with the whole this is how things work, sorry it's not more interesting deal. It always bothers me that this song starts with the word "and" it seems unnecessary. |
Built to Spill – Big Dipper Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I'm pretty sure "That's what chemicals can do" is refering to chemical imbalances in the brain |
The Good Life – The Beaten Path Lyrics | 20 years ago |
seems like it's more about being stuck in rutine but being too lathargic to want to change. |
The Good Life – Some Bullshit Escape Lyrics | 20 years ago |
