Joel Plaskett – Mystery And Crime Lyrics 18 years ago
i always thought this song was about the fake social lives people have, how people create these shallow dramatic lives. on another note, it's great to see joel doing so well; opening for the tragically hip across the country doesn't hurt.

another awesome, upbeat plaskett tune! he has a lot of songs that seem to be about traveling or touring...

Sarah Harmer – Uniform Grey Lyrics 18 years ago
this song reminds me of Prince Rupert, BC, where i grew up. the airport is on an island, so you fly in and then take a ferry and a bus to get into town. it does have the biggest port around, and it is one of the rainiest towns in BC, if not Canada. i have no idea if sarah has even been to Prince Rupert before, but on a personal level those are the memories that this song stirs up.
a gorgeous song.

The Tragically Hip – Twist My Arm Lyrics 19 years ago
on the live between us album, gord downie introduces this song as being "about the lull of Detroit"... but who knows? it can mean whatever has most meaning to you, as with most songs.

The Tragically Hip – New Orleans Is Sinking Lyrics 19 years ago
in the version of this song from Live Between Us, instead of the line "i looked up to the Lord above/ and said hey man thanks", he says "i looked up to the Lord above and said hey iggy, thanks". just another interesting twist someone could interpret.

that explanes why on the live album version of this song, Gordie talks about "good old montreal". great song, as usual from the Hip. all their live stuff rocks!

Jack Johnson – Mediocre Bad Guys Lyrics 19 years ago
That bit near the end, from "somebody saw him jump..." to "guess we lost another one..." are actually from a different song, from Fall Line. This is a great song, perfect to listen to when you're mad at someone!

Sarah Harmer – Basement Apartment Lyrics 19 years ago
i have to say, i never thought this song was that negative. i mean, on the surface the conditions dont seem that great, but i always got a feeling of the freedom you feel living on your own for the first time and the sense of community you feel with your friends when you're young. but maybe that's just because i had my own apartment for the first time this year! no matter what, its a great song, and i always get warm feeling of youth from it.

Sarah Harmer – Don't Get Your Back Up Lyrics 20 years ago
i get that this is about a relationship with someone, they are trying to hang on when the narrator thinks it is over ("too far gone").

Ani DiFranco – Bodily Lyrics 20 years ago
to me this song is about the pain involved with getting on with your life after you have had your heart broken by someone you loved and trusted. it is about betrayal.

i completely agree with scalewagjim, this song is about the international problems facing our earth and cultures today.

Jawbreaker – Driven Lyrics 20 years ago
sounds like this song is about a rape/murder. i like how he ends it, "i call it a wrong", yet he goes into all the logic of someone who would do something like that, even saying he understands. its kinda cool how he can see both sides, but definetly good he thinks its wrong (otherwise it would be creepy)
