Eddie Vedder – Guaranteed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
galite, maybe I can tell you how I interpret those lines. Although many people (especially in Alaska) have faulted Chris for "stupidly" going into the wild with such a scarce amount of supplies and preparation, I believe that he knew quite well what he was doing. He was obviously a smart man and had been on the road long enough to understand just how valuable supplies can be, especially in the cold. I don't think his problem was that he stupidly did not know the rules of the wild, I think that he knew them quite well and chose to confront them in order to find what he is looking for. I think the most important quote of the movie is when Catherine Keener tels Alex "You look like a loved kid, be fair." "I'll paraphrase Thoreau here: Rather than love, than money, than fame, than fairness, give me truth." He was not ignorant of the rules, he just wanted to know the rules of raw reality as much as possible, to a very dangerous extent. The rules of reality however, as cruel as they are, did not know him and his dreams and his quest. They were as they are with everyone, indifferent. |
The Dandy Warhols – I Am Sound Lyrics | 16 years ago |
First of all I'd like to say that I have never regarded this song as being particularly good until I've found myself yearning for it over and over again in the past year. I'd get this song stuck in my head many months after having listened it for the last time. I think it's the mix of the beat and the mood that I have never found before and that is very unique to me. I am not much of a lyric listener - I listen songs entirely musically, even treating the main voice as an instrument rather than a speaker of words, and thus haven't paid to the meanings of the lyrics. Now that I'm looking them over, I like them a lot. Bonus! By the way, this is why I like songmeanings.net. The previous comments on here seem very sincere and from the heart, and I haven't seem many sites with this type of candor regarding how its users feel about songs. |
Toadies – Tyler Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Why are people saying this is about rape? This is so obviously about an affair, as someone else previously pointed out. "And she waits. And I wait." She's waiting for the time when her husband is not home and they can have their affair. "We can drive to anyplace, Day or night, across the state. And in the morning, Into Mexico, We will wake up." Thinking of running away together. "I hear her call out to me." The most convincing lyric for this being an affair. She calls out to him. If your point is that he's delusional and imagining her waiting for him, going to Mexico with him, and calling to him, then you might as well say every love song is about a stalker-rapist's delusions. This is about an affair. |
The Presidents of the United States of America – Kick Out The Jams Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I actually think this is much better than the MC5 version. |
Nada Surf – Fruit Fly Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I actually this song is much more powerful when taking literally rather than metaphorically. What CAN a fruit fly do but go on? |
Cake – Tougher Than It Is Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Well, the more you try to shave the cat The more the thing will bite and scratch It's best, I think, to leave its fur And to listen to its silky purr" I like that part. He's commenting on how most people should leave it be. Don't try to fix something when fixing it will cause more problems. |
Cake – Tougher Than It Is Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Well, the more you try to shave the cat The more the thing will bite and scratch It's best, I think, to leave its fur And to listen to its silky purr" Great lyrics. A song about how most people should chill out and leave it be. They cause more problems than they presumely try to fix. |
Cake – Palm Of Your Hand Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think he is commenting on the tendency for some people to think some things are forever, when in fact everything is ephemeral and even the strongest foundations eventually collapse. |
Cake – Waiting Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Our insatiable natures. |
Cake – The Guitar Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Then you listen to the music and you'd like to sing along And you want to get the meaning out of each and every song And you find yourself a message and some words to call your own And take 'em home" Now whatever does he mean??? I need to find some message soon! |
Cake – Dime Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Funny and straightforward. |
Cake – She'll Hang the Baskets Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Some kind of metaphor? There's obiously a problem by a he and a she. He won't be coming back, she's maybe slamming the door? Cryptic. |
Cake – End of the Movie Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I thought this might possibly talk about the few people who want to sit through the entire credits at the movies. They consider leaving before that, "leaving before the end of the movie." Since such behavior is generally looked down upon ("What the hell are you doing staring at text scroll up?"), you might develop strained relationships with fellow moviegoers as a result. |
Cake – No Phone Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Straightforward song. |
Incubus – Just A Phase Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Ok I am going to go with the theory that this song is about a woman jaded at one single band's success. She deems it temporary because she thinks they suck so much. She finds solace in that. "I am bottled, fizzy water and you are shaking me up You are a fingernail running down the chalkboard I thought I left in third grade " You are really agitating/angering me, you're annoying. "Now my only consolation is that this could not last forever Even though you're singing and thinking how well you've got it made" Self explanatory "Who are you? When will you be through?" Who are you anyways? Where did you come from? Why are you in the forefront? When will you be done. The speaker is just flabbergasted at the band's popularity, mostly because she thinks they suck so much. "Yea it's just a phase...it will be over soon Yea it's just a phase...yea it's just a....phase" Comforts herself that it will be over soon "Call it women's intuition, but I think I'm onto something here Temporaryism has been the black plague and the Jesus of our age I know I must sound opinionated, maybe biased and quite possibly jaded But sooner than later they'll be throwing quarters at you on stage" I find no reason to think that the speaker is not a woman since men never say "call it women's intuition". The speaker then gives a theory about a greater social force, temporaryism, playing some part in this crappy band's success. Sooner or later, you'll be playing in coffee houses, since you will fail. "Who are you? When will you be through? Yea it's just a phase...it will be over soon Yea it's just a phase...yea it's just a....phase and I'm waiting for it to be over too." Repetitive, hammers it home at the end that not only does the speaker acknowledge this is all a phase, but the speaker is also checking her watch, as the crappy band is really tough to listen to. The end. |
