Dido – My Lover's Gone Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song... it's beautiful and haunting and... just overall great. It's funny that it makes you think of WWI, catherine, because I always saw it as being earlier... like, 1800's or before, when people used to get lost at sea all the time... can't really explain it though.

This is so completely random... most likely it doesn't mean anything. It's fun, though.

Barenaked Ladies – Grade 9 Lyrics 20 years ago
Sounds like they remember high school all too well. It's all so... true. Especially "Well half my friends are crazy and the others are depressed /And none of them can help me study for my math test /Got into the classroom and my knowledge was gone /Guess I should've studied instead of watching Wrath of Khan." I'm sure it's happened to all of us... well, maybe not watching Wrath of Khan, but the rest of it. It's happened to me, anyway.

Barenaked Ladies – Too Little Too Late Lyrics 20 years ago
I always thought it was "we're caught in play after years of endless rewind"... but I think I'm wrong. Anyway, it seems to be about two people in a relationship that really isn't working out, and one of the people wants to try and make it work, but the other person isn't helping- and besides, it may be 'too little too late'.

Barenaked Ladies – If I Had A $1000000 Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song... it's so fun. The line "But we would. We'd actually make the treefort from the first chorus out of it. Mmm." is not in either of my versions (Rock Spectacle or Greatest Hits), but it's really funny... ^_^ And I like the line "but not a real green dress, that's cruel".

Barenaked Ladies – What A Good Boy Lyrics 20 years ago
This is a great song- which, like most of BNL's songs, can be taken a lot of different ways, but my preferred interpretation is somewhere along the lines of sarahmansour's.

Barenaked Ladies – Uncle Elwyn Lyrics 20 years ago
LOL, I love this song... it's so funny. ^_^ I didn't find it for awhile because I always assumed the CD was over after the 'last' song, and turned it off... um, right, there was absolutely no point to that last comment.

Barenaked Ladies – Who Needs Sleep? Lyrics 20 years ago
Whee... I love this song. It's pretty much my theme song, insomniac that I am. ^_^ Somehow, I can rarely get to sleep before 2am, and then I get up at 6 to go to school... though probably no one cares about my sleep schedule, so I'll shut up now.

Barenaked Ladies – Testing 1,2,3 Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song, partly because it is probably the only pop song (that I know of, anyway) ever to use the word 'escarpment.' ^_^ I also like the lyrics "she hasn't even heard them/since she found out what the words meant/she decided she preferred them/all wrong". Too true, and not just with these songs. We always prefer our own interpretations, don't we? That said, I believe 'the past'll be presented' should be 'the past that we resented'.

Dido – See You When You're 40 Lyrics 20 years ago
This is definitely my least favorite song on "Life for Rent". Not the subject matter, really, but the wording is kind of clumsy and none of it rhymes. Plus the rhythm is off sometimes. Has anyone else noticed that from about 'see you when you're 40' onwards, there are sounds in the background like a dial-up modem connecting to the internet? I find it rather amusing. Anyway... yeah, he's a person who acts all depressed because it makes him seem cool, and she was dating him, and he dumped her. Then she tried to get him back, but realized when she did so that she didn't really want to date someone like that after all. The end.

Dido – Sand In My Shoes Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song. Just the verses, though, really. It so perfectly describes the way you- or at least I- feel at the end of a vacation. The chorus I could do without... as for what it's about... She met some guy while she was on vacation, and they fell in love, and then at the end of their trips they both went home to whatever far-apart places they live, and she misses him, but knows that trying to have a long-distance relationship with him would be horribly impractical. Plus they both agreed not to try to have one, which she now regrets. And also she's not happy to be back from wherever she was, obviously.

Dido – Hunter Lyrics 20 years ago
Drugs? I don't see it. I think it's about someone who's been overly controlled and protected, and wants to be on her own again and take chances... experience things. Basically what everyone else said.

Dido – Don't Leave Home Lyrics 20 years ago
This song sounds a little bit obsessive/overly possessive to me. I suppose it could be taken to be sweet, but it sounds to me more like she doesn't want him to go anywhere without her or do anything without her or talk to anyone except her (I mean, really- 'you won't need other friends anymore'?) I like it anyway, though. ^_^

Dido – Isobel Lyrics 20 years ago
I've always gone with the 'abortion' theory myself. The second verse seems to support it. I can see how the 'suicide' one might work, but such line as 'I hope you're safe tonight' seem to disprove it, in my mind anyway.
