Linkin Park – Somewhere I Belong Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about stupid bands on the radio that get a huge fanbase because their listeners think the lyrics speak to them but really their songs is just a rehash of every other pop song ever written and the fans are too narrow-minded to listen to anything except mainstream radio so they dub these bands as revolutionary and deep and although these bands might contribute new musical styles (or mixtures of existing styles such as rap and metal) they really add nothing lyrically or ideologically because their lyrics are hollow, which is what they want because the listeners of their music can't see past the paper-thin words and take them for face-value as a sign of deep empathy that they have never felt from anything before because they are so uncultured and never experience the multitude of art forms in this world that express even deeper levels of the same emotions that their songs intend to express. So basically the message is that there is more meaning to life than what you find in any simple lyrics, even if you think they define you or that they must have been written for you because they are so true. Of course they are so true. I could write a song with the lyrics: "I'm in pain, I've never felt the same!" and many people would express empathy and buy my new album. That's why I feel this song is so deep and it speaks to me.

Oh yeah, and the shore. Seems Hawaiian to me.

Pixies – No. 13 Baby Lyrics 20 years ago
Hmm, I agree with gilbag but I think it's about Frank's love for Polynesian or Hawaiian girls. There is imagery of a luau: "stand close to the fire when they light the pig." I think the Spanish thrown in is just typical Frank Black lyrics. I don't think it has any significance. There are many Pixies songs where Spanish or Spanish-type lyrics are thrown in without real significance. Take Debaser: Un Chien Andalusia is take from the film Un Chien Andalou, but changed and pronounced phonetically in Spanish. Also Crackity Jones: "la muneca," etc. Also some songs from Come On Pilgrim, and I'm sure that there are many more with Spanish thrown in randomly.

Pixies – La La Love You Lyrics 20 years ago
It's about telling someone that you love them just so you can bang them. The whole song is fully of flirtiness and the home run part kinda spells it out.

The Shins – So Says I Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about the flaws of civilization, but also about how we can't really do anything about it because nature just points us in the same direction.

"So we burned all our uniforms
And let nature take its course again
And the big ones just eat all the little ones
That sends us back to the drawing board"

This verse talks about going back to the natural order and shedding all signs of civilization, but then it doesn't work because it all comes down to survival of the fittest.

Pixies – Mr. Grieves Lyrics 20 years ago
I think the song is about death being everywhere and the pointlessness of grieving over such things. Also points out the annoying people trying to offer comfort: "Hope everything is alright." Those words don't mean much, even if you mean well.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps Lyrics 20 years ago
I have another interpretation, I think that maybe the singer is in love with a guy who she finds out is gay. Read the lyrics, it kind of makes sense.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is in the form of dialogue. One person is talking about packing up and leaving and the other person is saying "wait." The second person is telling them how much they love them, implying that they want them to stay. I think it is called maps because there is a decision about which direction to go in life, to stay or to go away. Just my interpretation.

Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics 20 years ago
I think the meaning of this song is pretty obvious. It's about those days in which everything is okay and there are no worries. Crashing into a cop car would usually mean getting written up, but they just drove away. Float on...
