The Killers – For Reasons Unknown Lyrics
|
This is my favorite track on the album after my first listen though. I love the pre-chorus part with the "and my heart, it don't beat..." bit. I love the vocals on it and the instrumentals. I could go emo about why I think the lyrics touch me or whatever, but I really think it's the music style that makes the Killers great and their lyrics having a certain impact. The Killers are one of those great and talented bands that I think are aimed to the twenty something crowd, but for some reason are loved by the teenie boppers. A bit like Duran Duran in that respect. |

Muse – Assassin Lyrics

Is it just me or does the intro to the song remind you of the Knight Rider theme song? I haven't heard the theme in ages, but for some reason that's the first thing I thought of when I heard the song. |

Youth Group – Forever Young Lyrics

I loved the Youth Group ever since I saw them tour with Death Cab. I work at the gap and heard this song playing. I checked our playlist to see who it was by and was surprised to see it was by the Youth Group. I can't wait for these guys to tour the US again. |

Ryan Cabrera – She's Lyrics

I hate Ryan Cabrera and his songs. They are just too good and the emotions, cheesy at times, are easy to relate to and remind me of old wounds. Dam you Ryan. |

Jimmy Eat World – Kill Lyrics

Best song on the new album. The lyrics are amazing. I could really relate to the whole waiting on a relationship situation that ended up not working. Putting a lot of yourself into something and getting killed is the pits. |

Death Cab for Cutie – Transatlanticism Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
I think the song is about a metaphorical distance instead of a physical one. I think it's apparent because the body of water keeps changing. First it's an ocean, than a lake, then a moat. If it was literal the body of water would stay consistent. I love the line "i thought it less like a lake and more like a moat." It's saying that the distance between them is something most people see has a good thing. I'm assuming playfulness creating a lack of depth. Most everyone agrees lakes are beautiful things, but to the speaker it's a moat, with the soul puprose of keeping him distant. And to fully understand this song I think you must understand Tiny Vessels. Both songs are related in thought and situation because of how smoothly they flow into eachother. Even though they convey to opposite ideas, their are relations. |

I like the lyrics to this song, but I think the music is more powerful than the words. I don't know how to explain it. Anyone else feel the same way? |

Death Cab for Cutie – Tiny Vessels Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
I love this song, but the thing I love about it most is how it flows intro Transatlanticism. The way it works maintains the same stream of thought and situation for each idea. The two songs are in juxtaposition creating a conflict in resolutio. In Tiny Vessels it talks about how the relationship is fading and tries to say he doesn't think she is nearly as perfect as before. In Transatlanticism his view changes. He recognizes the distance growing between them. It's something most people don't realize as a problem, but to him he sees it as an issue. Instead of letting her go he wants to try desperately to get her back. |

The Postal Service – This Place Is a Prison Lyrics

I disagree Munchman2k. In the context of the whole song I'm pretty sure "inhailing thrills through 20 dollar bills" is a metaphor about how temporary happiness at parties is cheap and always leaves you wanting more, never satisfied or content. |

The Postal Service – This Place Is a Prison Lyrics

I agree with Title Track. For those of you who are on the East Coast let me give you a geography lesson about my home, WA. If you look on the map you see how there's a body of water intruding into the land from the northwest. That water is called the Puget Sound. The Cascades is the mountain range in the middle of the state going north and south. Because it blocks a lot of rain everything east of it get pretty dry. So just about all the big cities are between the Puget sound and Cascades. I think the song is about being stuck in the city life. A society wear glamour, partying, and overall vain things are valued. Friends are there for self interest, not genuine care. I think getting out of the city life metaphorically is what he is portraying, not leaving the city physically. Because he compares his dreams to TV, where most shows seem to take place in big cities, but can portray true relationships and values. He just wants something real. Something more. He's just a post-modern guy. |

Dashboard Confessional – Several Ways To Die Trying Lyrics

I'm confused because this song is from the new album. The new album is great, but just not the same Dashboard sound I love. I liked the simplicity of him as a solo artist compared to the full band sound.
As for the song though, it is my favorite on A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar. |

Social Distortion – When the Angels Sing Lyrics

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this song about a child Mike Ness had and died? That's what my cousin, a huge Social D fan told me. I remember he later played it in dedication to Dennis, founding member of the band, when he passed away. |

Face to Face – (A)Pathetic Lyrics
|
One of my favorite Face to Face songs. The album, Ignorance is Bliss, is by far their most artistic album in terms of music and lyrics. This is a testiment to that. It does a great job of capturing the feeling of indifference and apathy. The feeling of not caring that you are stuck without ambition. Just waiting. |
