The Strokes – Is This It Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about a guy whose relationship is falling apart because of a cocain habit. He lied to her about quitting it and she found out that he lied and kicked him out of her house for good. Now he's pleading for one last chance by saying that it's ok if she disagrees with his habit, but she should give him another chance. At the same time he's trying to convince her that he really wasn't lying about getting clean; her friends lied to her and told her that he was still a coke head because they don't like him. Great song.

Jefferson Starship – We Built This City Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm pretty sure the correct lyrics are "who rides the wrecking ball in two wild guitars" and "Out on a gorgeous sunny Saturday, and I'm seeing that bumper to bumper traffic"

REO Speedwagon – One Lonely Night Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a classic "lost love" song. Not REO Speedwagon's best, but not a bad song either.

REO Speedwagon – Take It on the Run Lyrics 19 years ago
I can't believe that no one has submitted this song before me, I thought it was their biggest hit. I think this song is about the lead singer's girlfriend who claims that she's cheating but really isn't. Basically she just wants attention, but he's not believing it.

Cheap Trick – I Will Survive Lyrics 19 years ago
Anyone who has seen the movie "Gladiator" (the boxing movie, not the Russell Crowe movie) probably has heard this song. I don't think it's on any of their CDs, but it's on the soundtrack to the movie. Great song, it's a shame no one know's about it. The meaning is pretty straight forward though.

does it bother anyone else that this dude's name is Ryan Adams, which is really similar to Bryan Adams?

Keane – Everybody's Changing Lyrics 19 years ago
I first heard this song about 6 weeks ago and it reminded me of my friends. It seems like all of them are changing and drifting apart from each other and I'm stuck wishing everything was how it used to be. I can relate to the lyrics "everybody's changing and I don't know why."

Finger Eleven – One Thing Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about how he felt rushed to make a song for their album. He "wasted the light," meaning that he wasted time and now he's rushed to get a song done. The whole "even though I know/I just hate how it sounds" means that he knows the song doesn't have good musical structure, like actually making the tone change when going between the verses and the chorus, and the lack of a drum beat that doesn't sound flat (seriously, bass drum on the quarter notes only and nothing else sounds dull). "If I traded it all just for one thing" is a reference to trading the fun he had doing other things than writing songs for actually having written good songs. He's questioning whether or not the fun was worth it.

Breaking Benjamin – Polyamorous Lyrics 20 years ago
The lyrics posted here are slightly wrong. It's "I'm crawling out from the inside" and "I never hurt anyone."

Neil Diamond – I Am... I Said Lyrics 20 years ago
This song was written by Neil when he moved to LA to audition for the part in the movie Lenny (the movie was based on the life of Lenny Bruce). He didn't get the part and he wrote this song about how he felt at the time, the first part was written on the first day he auditioned and the song was eventually finished after he was turned down. During an interview with Larry King, Neil described that he started writing this song because he felt like he was about to explode since his audition didn't go well.
