System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics

Too bad it's so politically loaded - entertainment is no place for politics. As soon as I realized they decided to disguise their politics as entertainment, it wasn't entertaining anymore...just tainted. So I deleted it. |

Orgy – Blue Monday Lyrics

I agree there's a bad relationship theme to the song. Part of it is psychological - "And I still find it so hard/To say what I need to say/But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me/Just how I should feel today" - that's manipulation and more or less dictating the other person's life.
There also seems to be a physically abusive element to it: "When you've laid your hands upon me/And told me who you are" which basically says to me, the relationship started out nice enough but soon turned physically violent, thus revealing the other person's true nature.
I also seem to think there was an extremety to the physical abuse, where the singer felt their life was in danger: "But if it wasn't for your misfortunes/I'd be a heavenly person today". Maybe the other person had an accident that debilitated them, prevented them from possibly flying off the handle and killing the singer? Reaching maybe, but it had that sound to me. |

Squirrel Nut Zippers – Blue Angel Lyrics

Good comment on the film noir-ness of the song. I find at actually has some parellels with "Der Blaue Engel" (The Blue Angel), an old German flick. I can't say that it's based on it, but I can't say it's not, either... |

SY5TEM: I am firmly on the Republican side on the issue of military and war (among others), but I am independant enough that I do not completely buy into any one party's philosophy, demagoguery, or party line. There are elements of Libertarians, Democrats, even Greens that I agree with as well.
PS, for someone who doesn't like Republicans, that's an awfully offensive way to use the word 'gay', isn't it? |

Cherry Poppin' Daddies – Brown Derby Jump Lyrics
| 17 years ago

Basically this is saying that life in the fast lane is fun while you're there, but the aftermath is tough, and nothing comes free. It's also very easy to fall into this life without even thinking of the consequences.
This and Zoot Suit Riot are my favourite CPD songs and definitely two of my favourite Neo-Swing songs. |

System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics

No wonder this country is going down. These are the people who are growing up to lead it:
- Blindly hate everything the government does, then turn around and ask the government to do more for them (AKA being a hypocrite), while asking everybody else to pay for it.
- Pick up on what some buzz might be, then finding facts that happen to fit so that they can convince themselves of even the most outlandish conspiracies.
- Don't give a hoot that the military they rip on every day would lay down their lives so that you have the freedom to say what you want.
- Believe that the US is making money on wars.
And that's just a start. I'm getting a headache + indigestion thinking what some people actually believe on here.
Here's one more thing to chew on: if we're so awful, how come nobody's rippin' on going into Afghanistan? We did more or less the same thing there, changing out a regime under the auspices of security and helping the folks who live there. Post your own thoughts on that one. |

Bitter:Sweet – The Mating Game Lyrics
|
This song is all about the roller coaster of dating and trying to find Mr. Right. It pokes fun at it by calling it the Mating Game and a Sweet Charade.
Not quite poetic, this is nonetheless a slickly written piece, set to a rich background, and would make an interesting dance piece. Its humor is a refreshing element, strangely fitting very nicely into the lush soundscape. It's also a very addictive song. |

System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics

Oh my god, I can't believe I'm still hearing this "Bush is behind 9/11 and everything else miserable or even slightly annoying in my life" crap. Get a life guys. I don't agree with everything he's done - nobody should agree with everything a president does - but I just can't fathom that anybody would really believe that he would perpetrate something of that nature. That's sheer insanity fueled by anger that makes you blind. Think about it for a second; if that were REALLY the case, don't you think that you'd be hearing about it a hell of a lot more? If not my American media, than from international media? Absolutely incredible. If Nixon couldn't get away with some petty crap like breaking into a campaign office, how could Bush get away with 9/11? It takes not one ounce of intelligent thought to realize that's a big load of bull. |

System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics

Yeah, another angry rant against Bush, who seems to be everybody's favorite scapegoat. I f*cking hate political music of any kind, although the lib-tard hate messages are slightly more annoying than any others. Too bad I'm deleting this song now, because as a rule I do not keep political music of any kind whatsoever, no matter the message. And it's doubly too bad because I like the sound of this song and SOAD's sound in general.
At the very least, support our great troops who defend all of you, even though you might hate or disagree with them or the government. They truly do make this the best place on earth, and one where you can actually voice these concerns in the first place. |

Jem – Amazing Life Lyrics
|
To me, it's trying to coax someone into not giving up on life, or to not commit suicide because life is too amazing to do something like that.
This song was also on the Lexus IS350 commercial where the robots are caressing the car. Ugly car, but the song rocks my socks. I've had it on loop play for quite a while now. |

It's spelled SACKS Fifth Avenue, and I dare you to find anything under $100 there. Been to the one in Stanford, CA a couple of times, a bunch of rich b@#!$@!$@ shop there because they have more money than sense.
Anyway, the song is about how being rich somehow isn't fulfilling. |

Backstreet Boys – Everybody (Backstreet's Back) Lyrics

Never had much respect for BSB - it's pretty much just an orchestrated act, it's arbitrary who sings the song since they don't write them anyway. Still, this one's pretty freakin catchy, and I'm not gonna lie...it's in my MP3 collection. |

Backstreet Boys – Incomplete Lyrics
|
Wow...this song brings a whole new level of respect for BSB to me. The song is touching and introspecive, if not nearly as meaningful as many of the greats. In my humble opinion, this is their best work yet. Good work!
The meaning is fairly obvious: he's hurtin over a girl that left, he feels incomplete without her. You hardly have to scratch the surface to get that. |

Seal – Kiss From A Rose Lyrics

'Now that your rose is in bloom" always sounded like a young girl to me, who was starting to develop physically, if you know what I mean, and now he feels attracted. Doesn't fit into the rest of the song, but for some reason, that's all I think of when I listen to this song. |

It's all about compromise.

Big & Rich – Live This Life Lyrics
|
Wow, this song is gorgeously done. It's about suicide:
"Met a girl in a chair with wheels, but no one else would see her
Met a girl in a chair with wheels
Everyone was so afraid to even look down on her
And she just spread her little wings and flew away "
and
"Met a kid on a bridge last night, comtemplating freedom
Met a kid on a bridge last night
And he said, "I'm tired of this maddening life and I'm ready to go meet Jesus"
And also about how no matter what, he will strive to live as long as he can:
"I'll live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Then I will walk, yes I will walk with patience through that open door
I have no fears, angels follow me wherever I may go
I'll live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore "
Even if you're not really religious, like me, it has a great message, and because it's so beautifully sung, it's even just a great song to listen to without analyzing. Might even be my fav from Big + Rich. |

Depeche Mode – World In My Eyes Lyrics

It's a sex song. Like the last guy said, she's the world he wants to explore. Not overtly sexy to listen to, but when you understand the meaning, it somehow works really really well and gets more and more erotic sounding as you listen to it more. Definitely one of my favorites from DM. I can remember my brother listening to this back in the day...now I know why DM's his fav band. |

Nirvana – Heart-Shaped Box Lyrics
|
Nirvana, to me, is what you make of it. I've always thought Kurt was more into the singing than what he sang; his playing, his singing got your emotions out, and it was up to you to make what you would of the lyrics. If they had meaning to him (I'm sure they did), then he certainly didn't intend for that to be the ONLY meaning to them. To me it is a generic song about being in a pretty bad relationship. |

Can't say I like Ashlee that much because she's got a few life lessons yet to learn, but I have to admit I have a soft spot for this song. It's fun to listen to. And hey, I like the girly spin on sexual fantasies, which it doesn't take a genius to figure out this is. I'd La La Ashlee, she's got phenomenal eyes *wink* |

Incubus – Southern Girl Lyrics

|
All about crushes. Pure and simple, he has a crush on a girl, and wonders if he's got a chance...sounds familiar, eh guys? I love this song's sound, and then love it even more because I'm a Southern boy who loves Southern girls.
As usual, Incubus has an intelligent, more poetic way of saying things rather than just recycling cliches. However, there's something more primal in this one, as there is in a crush - "We'll behave like animals
Swing from tree to tree
We can do anything
That turns you up and sets you free"
Need I say more? |

Incubus – 11am Lyrics

Basically, it sounds to me he got out of a relationship, and is having second thoughts. He wants to rewind, start from the start. And he pleads that she forgive his indecision. A touching way of putting it all, Incubus with their usual excellent lyricism |

Lush – Light From A Dead Star Lyrics

Beautifully composed and performed, this delicate tune has a heavy meaning. This woman loves her man, but she just can't keep him. He slips away and lives with the pain because she can't imagine being anywhere else.
It's a situation I was once in, so I can definitely feel the pain radiating out of this song straight into my heart. One of my favorite songs, period. |

Lush – Undertow Lyrics

To me, it's about a man, despairing over something, maybe his empty, money-filled life, who is sinking into deep depression and his lady who wants so badly to save him. It might even literally be that he's committing suicide and that she saves him, but I'm not sure of that. |
