Jimmy Eat World – A Sunday Lyrics 21 years ago
As much as I love Jimmy Eat World, this song hits too many chords with me. I guess if you're too sensitive to the subject matter it can be too much. I still like the song, though.

Gin Blossoms – Pieces Of The Night Lyrics 21 years ago
This song incorporates two themes you can find in just about every Gin Blossoms song; drinking and love. It seems to me as if Doug Hopkins is writing about the drunken motives of this girl that he is with. It's their 12th night together, and they're about to have sex, but then he sees that there is nothing left of her in her alcohol and wonders what she would gain from the experience anyway. "What the hell did you expect to find? Aphrodite on a barstool by your side?" So many of us think so little of ourselves that we resort to drinking to find love... whether we know it or not. I know I sure as hell do. Anyways, this is my favorite Gin Blossoms song, and I've given my interpretation of its meaning a lot of thought. Make of it what you will.

Lifehouse – Everything Lyrics 21 years ago
Being told by a girl I love that this song reminds her of me was quite possibly the most flattering thing I've ever been told in my life. Pure emotion is raw and awesome; this song is all of that, and more. I probably would have forgotten this song at some point in my life if it wasn't for the direct relation it has to me. I won't ever forget it now.

Counting Crows – Einstein On The Beach Lyrics 22 years ago
I definitely also thought that this song was about Einstein's vision leading to the demise of mankind... nuclear winter and whatnot. But it's certainly a happier-sounding apocalyptic song than "Black Hole Sun," isn't it? I don't know, I'm sure that it was about a dog, but the lyrics were definitely written so that the song could be thought of two different ways. The song rules, and so does the band.

Gin Blossoms – 29 Lyrics 22 years ago
I might be alone in this, but this song moves me more than any other one on the whole album. It's just so profound and powerful, and in fact it's a little bit hopeful - which is a real rarity when you consider the other songs on the CD.

Familiar 48 – The Question Lyrics 22 years ago
This is a great song to describe that feeling of insecurity you can get in a relationship, even though you really shouldn't be feeling insecure. The girl in this song is trying really hard, telling him she loves him, and crying, all because of him -- yet he still believes he's "no good" and "doesn't belong". We all feel this way sometime, and there's not a better song to listen to when you are in a funky mood than this. Great song.

John Mayer – 3x5 Lyrics 22 years ago
This song reminds me of the night I bought this CD and drove up I-81 through the Pocono mountains to Ithaca, NY. It was in February and we were driving through blowing snow... it was so fun. This is by far the most fascinating song on the best CD of 2001.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – All I Want Lyrics 22 years ago
I definitely don't see this song as a breakup song. It certainly is about a relationship, but the lyrics suggest that although there is dishonesty, distrust, perhaps, in the relationship, it's all okay, and this is all he wants. It's an uplifting message because there is a point in every relationship -- good or bad -- where it comes obvious that something is not right. How we handle things not being right is what makes it good or bad. Great song.

Chris Whitley – Big Sky Country Lyrics 22 years ago
If John Mayer wishes that he had written this song... then it's got to be written rather well. Enough said.
