i just saw the flaming lips perform last night. they played this song and i cried so much. they were displaying the words on a big screen so people could sing along, and i guess i never thought about the words to this before. this song is being positive despite what everyone else might be doing. the flaming lips are all about doing whatever it is that they want without any regard for what is thought of them for that. they are that bird that stays for the winter, doing something that might be seen as crazy, but they're so positive in everything they do that they can get away with it. |

i think the song is about human fallibility, and our ability to rise above whatever driving force might cause us to act poorly. and the realization that its a neverending battle. this is definitely my favorite song on the album. the watson twins' backup vocals just suck me in. i could have no idea what this song was about, but if they sang like that on it, i would immediately love it. |

it's not necessarily a meth head. yeah, so he makes reference to a tweaker, but i think in general, it's just about the whole subculture of people who go to concerts and raves and dance around forever while high as a kite, no matter the type of drug. i used to go to raves and i was always amazed by some of the people and their ability to just dance and dance and dance. and who cares if this song is the one that everyone knows? when it comes down to it, keller is so far from mainstream that you can't really call this his sell out song because selling out would imply that he sold out. |

I have been to so many reggae shows in my life, and seen so many amazing musicians. Seeing Damian perform this song with Stephen at the Roots Rock Reggae Festival in Chicago this summer was one of the most amazing experiences ever. They extended the song so it was probably 10 to 12 minutes long. Stephen's guitar work just seemed so much more insane, and Damian's vocals were SO intense. At the end of the studio version of the song... it was that type of intensity only even more. I was so close to the stage, and ridiculously stoned, and I felt like the song literally took me captive and I couldnt stop dancing. I would love to find an audio track of him performing this song live... does anyone know where I could find such a thing? |

i love jack johnson so much because his music reminds me why i love my home (hawaii) without it having to be annoying hawaiian music. the first time i heard this song, i knew he was talking about the north shore. i've spent a lot of time up there. cruise through haleiwa listening to jack johnson. nothing beats that. does anyone know who moe lerner is? becuase the song is called Mud Football (For Mor Lerner). maybe he was a childhood friend who died, and jack was inspired to write this song. that would explain the line "that everything good always would remain" that was just my though on it. |
