Nirvana – Big Long Now Lyrics 21 years ago
this is a great song, I dunno what americans find appealing when they are high, but I find this song really snaring in any mental mood... I dun have a clue what he means with this, maybe it's mataphors for something Kurt only knows of, or mebbe he went creative when he was high, but I like it, endlessly climbing towards something and not realizing it's useless...

Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics 22 years ago
what's so beautiful with this? what is it with americans and guys squealing out the lyrics? I don't get it, I just downloaded this song and I was like "......this??". If you want a good "shallow"-ish song like this, but better, get A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras, and if u want to advance inte levels of music you may not understand, get Tool - Lateralus.....yes

Tool – Reflection Lyrics 22 years ago
this is a long/deep song, hehe

"So crucify the ego before it's far too late to leave behind this place, so negative and blind and cynical"

he talks about liberating himself from ego, and in an interview he commented:

Maynard: "If you look at the cycles of the moon, it starts as a thin crescent and then gradually waxes until it becomes full; then it gradually wanes back into another crescent and then it is gone. The moon reflects sunlight like humans reflect information. We wax and wane and when we become full moons, our egos are full. We think we have this knowledge when in fact, the information we have is pure. And how it reflects or shines off of us, is something we take credit for as though the moon could take credit for its brightness when, in fact, it is only reflecting light from the sun. We have to understand that we are ego-less just as the moon is without light. It and we are simply reflectors. The ego is not responsible for the information. It can reflect the information in creative ways, but the information itself is pure"

Well what does this mean? Maybe be humble and liberate yourself from thinking big about yourself, since you're just a temporary carrier of the knowledge u have attaind. This reminds me of an expression in buddhism called Bodhichitta, the state of metal awakening...

We really just obtain information in it's purest form, then it is up to you if you abuse this information, twist it in creative ways and do whatever with it, but from the beginning, it is just the reflection on you from it's origional source, like moon in only shining from it's origional source, the sun...

Like people say...Maynard James Keenan is god...and if not, atleast an enlightened buddha of the music industry =]

Tool – Parabola Lyrics 22 years ago

Interview with Maynard James Keenan (October 31, 2001)

Questioner: In "Parabola" you speak about the body as a type of vessel. And you state that we need to hold on to and stay inside this holy reality. In contrast to your attacks on Christianity, how should we interpret the use of the term 'holy', here?

Maynard: "Life is to be revered. Few people take the time to realize how valuable their experiences are at any given time in their lives because we can be snuffed out in the next minute".

[Although some may take this to be a paraphrase of the 'Stop and smell the flowers' bit of flaky advice from the sixties, the central message is a good one because it demands of us the discipline by which to forcibly become self-aware of what is meaningful and essential to life. We do take things for granted, without doubt. Most of the time, we are caught up in the superficial trappings of cultural inventions. But to be alive, and to know it, is one of the first great cognitive evolutionary steps in the development of human consciousness]

Maynard: "Life should be revered simply for the fact that we need to be thankful that we are currently able to consciously appreciate what we are going through right now. There are layers to our lives which can be appreciated at various levels. This moment that we're having right now is highly significant."

[At this point I mention Albert Schweitzer's book Reverence for Life where he mentions that some things are necessary in life. There are constraints on life and we have to function within those constraints. I referred to the lyrics in 'Disgustipated' where Maynard mentions that 'Life feeds on life'. This is an obvious biological truism which creates an environment of constraints in which we must live.]

Questioner: From this, I state that the feeling of eternity and reference to pain as an illusion in 'Parabola' is interesting. Is this tongue-in-cheek or is the meaning here literal?

Maynard: "Having a background in science, anyone will tell you that everything pretty much is light. Form and frequency, quantum physics and the fact that humans are made up of bits of matter (light), at this level, particles neither come into nor go out of existence, and at that level we are eternal. And although pain operates at one level, there is no pain at the underlying level of matter. People operate at different levels. Does that make any sense? These are huge, lofty spiritual concepts...

aah grungy sound from their earlier days.

well...it's a hard text but here goes... I think it's about watching someones insecurity while they look down on you and suck your energy, taunting you.

And all of a sudden, her actions has drained her, and she realizes that she is as ugly as you cuz she pushed it and stared too long into the sun. She's withering...

I can't belive no one has commented on this song, it's so metaphoric and beautiful, like Tori Amos is a beautiful and talented artist...

This song is about flaws of life, and how small things move us, we shouldn't get stuck on details and live life to the fullest i guess...

Silverchair – Petrol & Chlorine Lyrics 22 years ago
This is another depressing one. I guess it's about how you're apathetic and numb, like; "why take another picture of the wall, while ur silently staring into it", sinking through deep black voids of depression, feeling that seconds, minutes, hours, days just melt together and fades away into a nothingness and your just sinking headlong down deeper and can't do nothing about it. And I like the indian instrument in the song....

Anyone know what he means with Petrol and Chlorine? Is it that Chlorine and Petrolium produces dioxins that are dangerous for the environment and causes cancer, and that brain is a pure square of grass, and therefore growing on crap and such? Does anyone know? thank you...
