alright, the song isn't about Ashley, it's about a woman named Julia, Julia Grey. (hm...strange) anyways, it was the first song he ever wrote, wouldn't play it for two or so years after he wrote it, and when Julia turned him down three times for marrige, he got pissed(rightfully so) and wrote Halloween, probably the greatest Dave Matthews song written as far as emotion is concerned. Granny actually has absolutley no relevance to the song. When Dave can't think of a name for a song, he'll ask a friend of his, I think it was the lighting guy, but i cna't remember off the top of my head, but that guy will give it a name, he's named songs like "Blue Water Baboon Farm" and "Heathcliff's Haiku Warrior". I honestly don't think this song would sound as good if it wasn't sung by Raine...his voice adds such a desperation sound to it, and it makes it sound so much more beautiful than it already is. Just my take on it..
it does remind me of - well, someone - i miss a lot, and it kind of gives me that hope that eventually things will work out..somehow. |

Alright..the story behind this song is that it was originally planned for Make Yourself, but for some reason, production and managment issues, and maybe album space they cut it..which is a terrible mistake, this is by far one of the best incubus songs and more people should know about it - but unfortunatley many don't..just figured I'd give everyone a little history about the song :) |

Just a note here, if anyone has "The Morning View Sessions" on DVD, take a look at the Drive performance, it'll make you appreciate this song about a million times more....very very sweet how Kilmore interjects himself half way through the song. Check it out - that performance alone is worth the $20 on the DVD, and while you're out buying incubus DVD's, pick up When Incubus Attacks Volume 2. |

This song is about ignorance..plain and simple. Brandon is obviously giving someone, whether it be a girl or not, some sort of signs that he digs her, and she's completley ignorant to it. This song is so close to home w/ me. Women, lol j/k ;) Awsome song, but then again - you wouldn't expect less from Brandon and the boys would you? |

I love this song. This is one of my favorite DMB songs..the emotion in it just captivates me. I can't get away from it. My Girlfriend dumped me about a month ago out of the blue, and everytime I hear this song it somehow soothes me - gives me that feeling of hope, I'm sure when Dave wrote this he knew somthing good would come out of it, and I guess I get that feeling too. haha cheesy maybe, but it helps |

This song is amazing, I'm so upset I didn't hear it live when I saw them a month ago.Regardless, dave rocks, I'd love to hear this song with a full band though - can't you just imagine Boyd or Leroi jamming to this..or steffan..ahh..hopefully they'll release it eventually. |

This is one of the best Dave Matthews Band songs I've ever heard. It's just like Tripping Billies, death happens, but while we're here, make it fun, and enjoy yourself. Althought, i must say, when you're down on yourself, the line "Wash out this tired notion - That the best is yet to come" means quite a lot to you..But regardless, it's a beautiful song.

wow..this song is so amazing. My girlfriend just dumped me..and it reminds me so much of it. Especially; "spin around me like a dream we played out on this movie screen and i said did you know i missed you?" It's such a good line, and it hits home really well. |

This song is amazing!! Seriously on the top of my favorite songs list. The guitar, and lyrics, the voice, and the piano all make for an interesting and brilliant mix thats quite a pleasentry to the ears. My favorite part is when we get to hear; "With your babies breath, breathe symphonies, come on sweet catastrophe", all and all it's amazing |
