i'm seeing it a little differently that you do... i'm thinking... he's in a relationship with a girl who he has feelings for, but he doesn't want to be with her anymore. he finds out too hard to leave, so he's thinking about what would happen if he died, he wouldn't "let her down" by ending the relationship, but he wouldn't have to deal with her and the cheating she has done/is doing on him. just my thoughts. |

this is one of my absolute favorite songs, i remember in fifth grade i'd stay up really late just to hear it on the radio... yes, this was one of the very first cds i ever bought *memories* i never really knew the actual story behind this song, but i always really related to it (yes, even in fifth grade). i do know now, however, that it's about her parents' divorce. she sees her family falling apart (like leah grrl said) and isn't getting any attention, possibly sees it as her fault. very beautiful. |

ha! i just had a revelation. i was just listening to this song and that last line reminded me of something... we just got done reading catcher in my lit class, and it's an amazing book. and yes, i do realize that somebody has already mentioned it. but it really does make a lot of sense. it's all about solitude and loneliness. "another year you'll all be here/falling in love and watching sunsets and sunrises./it'll be grand and just what you planned/'til tomorrow comes and you've said your last goodbyes./he says he'll write, but he won't write/and you will waste your time/so stay the fuck home and greet everyone with goodbye." he knows that society's fucked up and it's pointless to be so shallow. holden caulfield is my hero... |

| egads. what can i say... they are just amazing... i saw in a post for another song, that std songs are so amazing because they're so graphic yet at the same time so innocent. i mean, if you just read the lyrics, the first time through it's a little intimidating, but you look deeper and hear his voice and the music and it all of the sudden all fits, and it's just utterly beautiful. this song really does make me smile, even when i'm in the worst of moods. "just know you did it all the best that you knew how." amazing. | |

| i first heard dashboard confessional less than a week ago (i decided it was time to expand my musical horizons) and it's now my absolute favorite band. i have every one of their songs, off both the albums, the ep, and a couple others and i just got back from listening to them in the car. i'd never really payed attention to this song, it was like a break from all the others. but this time i just listened to it... and i was breathless. it was quite embarassing, actually, i almost started crying. there's something abouyt his words that feel like they're molded just for me, like he was watching me while he wrote them. it's so incredibly perfect for my life and where i am right now, this is officially my favorite song! | |
