i am confused by this song. i understand that there are parts of it that are obviously aimed at touring and the whole "business" aspect of music. but the chorus just confuses me, cause who are they not letting in? The Fans? that doesn't make too much sense to me. a loved one? but there isn't any other mention of a certain person and it is we not I. so i don't the chorus just confuses me... any clarification? |

It feels like there are a lot of different stories going on in this song. The "act of growing up" i think it's the combination of a lot of different people and their respective experiences with sex. and how they're (and we're) doomed "unprepared for a life filled with lies and failing relationships." Also how you should "Die young and save yourself!!!"

ya she went to jail, but he's saying that it wasn't his fault, although she may have interpreted it that way, because by him throwing the drink at that guy, the police found out something about her and she thinks of it as his fault. i think that that is sorta at lest in her mind where the relationship went wrong. then the line "you're free with a history" i mean is that even possible is what he's trying to get at, will she ever really be free. and then the line "i'm the one between the bars and lost forever now" so although she may be in prision, he is figuratively trapped while she is literally trapped and neither will ever be free |

i have the last couple of lines on my ceiling and i wake up on saturday mornigs to them, and they are right above a star and moon mobile, and it's just so perfect that way. These are lyrics that don't need a song, they are so pure. but the song makes them that much better, which if you read the lyrics first would never think to be possible. You could turn this one song into an entire life time, from those few lines, i can envision someone's childhood, lost loves, found loves, soulmates. This is one of my alltime favorite songs. |

This is just my interpretation-
It's as though she had a kid that they had to give up and they're running away from what they did "trying to figure out who's right and who's wrong" and there is still something that will keep them tied down, as though by giving up a kid, they lost a freedom, even though they were trying to be free. And she's in control, she's driving, yet he'll stay with her regardless of anything that happened or anything that is to come.
Anyways... i love this song, it is one of my most favorites. |

this song is definatly in my top ten of all time favorite songs. the lyrics are amazing, this song almost makes me cry every time i hear it.
He says its about drug addiction, which is sad in and of itself. The girl is jsut going too fast for him, and eventually he gets addicted, starts going too fast, and the sadness in finding that person that you can never have nt becasue they won't have you but because they'll destroy you. and having to know what you have to do.

I love the new version of this song with the violins and just the way everything flows together.
The only thing that i makes the older better is that in the newer version they cut out the line "'cause Grandma said destiny" and changed grandma to you. I loved that line in the older song, it was my favorite.
