I think this song is about a breakup that she just can’t seem to forget. Their story starts at the beginning of October/November when it is in the transition from autumn to winter. She visits his house one day and it feels like home to her. She can be herself with him and the two of them are like best friends as they sing/dance in the car without a care in the world. This is obviously a memory from the distant past as the relationship is no more now, but she can still remember it clearly. She knows that as time goes on she should simply forget and move on like in all relationships but she can’t. So she acts like everything is okay but it really isn’t. She does everything she can to forget the memories. She manages to forget all the bad things in the relationship, leaving her with only the good memories. However, in the back of her mind she still knows what really happened and she “remembers it all too well” He breaks up with her unexpectedly and although he is being honest it has come out of the blue to her and he has said it as though it was not that big of deal. He was blunt as he phoned her to breakup. Time goes slowly as depression hits her. She no longer knows who she is and she is left to find it on her own. As they both grow up and become adults, he holds on to her scarf that she left behind as it is his only memory left of her after he sent all her things back. He keeps it as a reminder of what he had and what he lost as she was the real thing, and the closest thing to love he would ever find. And he is left to feel guilt and heartache as he too is haunted by the memories; he remembers everything “all too well”
