I think the song starts as she discovers him, as many others in many different eras of time have, and his curse is that regardless of how many times he is found and buried he has to watch as each person he falls in love with dies while he remains the same. (all while remaining a slight metaphor for losing those you love). That's my outsider, first impression on this wonderful piece of music.

It's an excellent song...poetic even. I agree with you, and we human beings are known for repetitive behavior. We keep doing the same thing time and time again, but expect different results. Just maybe when the constants are altered, so are the results. And just maybe one has to look at the history established, it's length, and its openess to realize that some situations are simply new, different, and possible. But that would take trust, and humans are not often good at feeling vulnerable.
