I really like all the samplings here. The image I get is of a man on his bed with a glass of scotch channel-surfing, all alone.

Beautiful use of show-not-tell style. You can read into this line so much. I see a couple arguing about one's ambitions. She wants him to be different but he doesn't feel like he should have to defend who he is or who he wants to be.

"As long as she stays on the page"

This line works well enough alone, but the added meaning from the passage Vozzy posted is intense. This man is staring at a magazine picture, but doesn't trust the girl in it to remain there because he has been wrecked so many times/so harshly in the past.
