to me...this song is about two people breaking up and its altogether a mess. its like...they want to be together but they have too many differences that they cant get past. "i wouldve stayed up with you all night...had i known how to save a life" reminds me of the fact that, even when you love someone so much, you really cant change who they are. and, obviously, this song shows that he cant save her from whats happening so the relationship just cant go on anymore.

but if you look real deep into the lyrics its pretty clear that there has to be some sort of drug incident involved. it was obviously written by the lead singer who is a recovered drug addict.
Same here! After every breakup I always relate to this song. Especially I would of stayed up with you all night because I would have stayed up, to try and resolve it...but they just wanted to go to bed. Im a huge believer in not going to bed angry.

More recently this really struck a BIG cord with me because I had to end my relationship for the last and final time with a drug addict. I tried everything to the point where I was starting to lose myself. Sad when they can't hear your cries. Especially to help them. Addiction is a huge problem today and they have to help themselves. It never works unless they admit they have a problem and then THEY want it for themselves to get clean.
