I think what Andrew Bird means by measuring cups and measuring your brain is judging and comparing people, namely children, to each other. Saying that there's something wrong with anybody who is a little different.
"come to the front of the class and we'll measure your brain" brings me back to middle school and the embarassment of being brought to the front and taken out of class by the guidance counselor.
I also like mazetti's idea about limitations. You don't have to be the best, and just because you're not as good as someone else doesn't mean you should have to change to be more like them.
