Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.
Drop your guard, I'll get to know you
Simon says it's time to move
And God only knows I think about you
‘Cuz its never time to show and prove
It's never time to show and prove
Hiding all the time destroys me
Never know what's right to do
I only needed to feel a balance
I just want to do right by you
Sitting safe beside the truth
Beside you
Watch out for my bullshit
Everybody's got it
Careful as a soldier we're so strong
Begging my new teacher
Thought you'd never reach her
She's standing there in front of you
It's twice as hard to fool us
It's twice as hard to fool us
Careful as a soldier we're so strong
Careful as a soldier we're so strong
Simon says it's time to move
And God only knows I think about you
‘Cuz its never time to show and prove
It's never time to show and prove
Hiding all the time destroys me
Never know what's right to do
I only needed to feel a balance
I just want to do right by you
Sitting safe beside the truth
Beside you
Watch out for my bullshit
Everybody's got it
Careful as a soldier we're so strong
Begging my new teacher
Thought you'd never reach her
She's standing there in front of you
It's twice as hard to fool us
It's twice as hard to fool us
Careful as a soldier we're so strong
Careful as a soldier we're so strong

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.
Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

"Begging my new teacher Thought you'd never reach her She's standing there in front of you."
"Careful as a soldier we're so strong."
I wish I knew what those lines meant. The song's awesome though.
"Careful as a soldier we're so strong"<br /> <br /> This goes right along with "watch out for my bullshit, everybody's got it." He's full of shit. He doesn't feel strong at all and is trying to convince himself that he is, which is partly why the line is repeated more than anything else in the song. Probably also trying to convince himself that he is as careful, calculating, and reasoned as a soldier might be, when he's really a wreck and is afraid he's going to do something really stupid.<br /> <br /> Safer to sit "beside the truth<br /> (beside you)"
