I am not the only traveler
Who has not repaid his debt
I've been searching for a trail to follow again
Take me back to the night we met
And then I can tell myself
What the hell I'm supposed to do
And then I can tell myself
Not to ride along with you
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, take me back to the night we met
When the night was full of terrors
And your eyes were filled with tears
When you had not touched me yet
Oh, take me back to the night we met
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Take me back to the night we met
Who has not repaid his debt
I've been searching for a trail to follow again
Take me back to the night we met
And then I can tell myself
What the hell I'm supposed to do
And then I can tell myself
Not to ride along with you
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, take me back to the night we met
When the night was full of terrors
And your eyes were filled with tears
When you had not touched me yet
Oh, take me back to the night we met
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Take me back to the night we met

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
In uni I feel in love with a girl I couldn't be with. Sometimes I wished we had never met, as it would have made my life so much easier ... unrequited love.
This song reminds me of this period in my life. I use to feel that she haunted me in my dreams ... and she ruined my relationships at that time because none could compare to her (in essence as the song says "Haunted by the ghost of you"). She was not my partner, but I couldn't love another with her around (or even after we'd had an unceremonious break in our friendship ... as we both loved one another, but we couldn't act upon it).
Love is a difficult thing ... we can not chose to love or be loved. Sometimes it just happens, and we sometimes may wish to change the past to avoid the heartache if that loves fail. But ultimately we grow from each and every one of these experiences (no matter how hard or gut wrenching it was at the time ... we do move on ...... to a degree)
@sokorny

I'm confused with your thoughts. You said, you fell in love with a girl in uni.. University right?

You guys had an unceremonious break in your friendship ... as you both loved one another and couldn't act upon it?

How come it's unrequited love?

Do you really feel that both of you have moved on?

I do hope you guys talk so you know if it's time to really move on or if there's a chance to act upon the love that you guys have for one another.
@purple9710 well considering it was about 15 years ago I think we've both moved on. It was a complicated relationship, started as friendship turned to more for me but she was with my best friend. Then he left for a year to go travelling, so we got even closer but neither of ever acted on it. One of those ... what could have been??
@sokorny

I guess you guys really moved on because it's been 15 years.

It's just sad to hear that the girl you were in loved with and who was also in love with you was already committed to your best friend. It was surely a difficult situation for her because she was already in a relationship but she was in love with you. The situation was really complicated.

If I was the girl, I would have been honest with your best friend that I have feelings for his best friend. That you guys loved one another. It's like betraying her boyfriend while he was travelling for a year and you and her got closer. Even though you didn't act upon it. The fact that you guys got emotionally closer or physically closer, it was really a dangerous time.

If I was your best friend, I would appreciate if you guys were honest. Who knows, he might let go of his girlfriend if he really knew that you guys really loved one another. Possibly he broke up with her and he let her go and told her to be together with you instead. He would be happy to see you guys together knowing that you guys loved one another.

On the other hand, I respect why you didn't act upon the love you had for each other. You guys didn't want to hurt your best friend's feeling.

On second thought, it's better to hurt someone and be honest. It's better to let go of a loved one knowing that he or she is in love with someone else. It's better to give up the relationship knowing that the other person is not committed. It's better to release the loved one learning that he or she is not happy with you and he or she is happy with someone else.

I believe that's the risk of having a relationship like boyfriend or girlfriend, if it didn't work out. The only thing to do is to break up. If both are not committed, honest, and really in love with each other, it's time to
let go. Time to really move on. Not all relationships find their one true love and it's up to the individuals if they really see themselves together until they are old and gray or accept that the one, two, or third time didn't work out. As the saying goes, there is nothing permanent in this world except change.

But some are blessed to be with their one true love. Well, that's another situation.

Anyway, I guess you guys have really moved on. Although, it's really a what could have been..

Thank you for explaining.

Best Wishes. Bye.

@sokorny @purple9710 Hey, kids: life's experiences may teach you that you CAN actually choose to love. The "falling" aspect often is an initial component but ultimately you do have more control than you might think. If you choose to exercise it, that is.
@sokorny Hey bigmutt! I'm not a kid. I'm already 42. I believe sokorny is not a kid as well. You are correct, we CAN actually choose to love. Although, I also agree with sokorny we can not to chose to love or be loved. With regards to "falling", I also agree with your point of view. But sometimes, we do not need to exercise it, it comes naturally.
Anyway, thank you for your input.
@sokorny haha. I don't mean to laugh but I did.
