the old man sings
in the face of fear
the circular mantra
why are we here
the audience is blind
to what takes place
in the pillory
life is a stage
the vertical lights of death
in codes of red and blue
birds in black and white
and the drums of wwii
tattooed in numbers
genocide is suicide
we are our own enemy
and the last judgement
our children are hurting
in the final performance
the newborn is still
the rest is silence
in the face of fear
the circular mantra
why are we here
the audience is blind
to what takes place
in the pillory
life is a stage
the vertical lights of death
in codes of red and blue
birds in black and white
and the drums of wwii
tattooed in numbers
genocide is suicide
we are our own enemy
and the last judgement
our children are hurting
in the final performance
the newborn is still
the rest is silence

It's about war (the drums of wwii - world war II) - and the effects that war has on us as a nation. birds in black and white - (refers to fighter planes of those colors) we are our own enemy and the last judgement - war often times does more harm than good so we should be wary of passing the judgement to go to war so quickly tattooed in numbers genocide is suicide when a war is fought with the conscious or subconscious goal of deliberate and systematic destruction of an entire race or subculture it is essentially suicide the audience is blind to what takes place - often times we who are watching a war unfold and not actually in it do not fully realize the actual brutality of it, we just couldn't fathom.
