What's this about limits?
Sorry, I don't know none.
What's this about some DB limit?
Sorry, I can't hear none.

You can take a little cruise down the river of booze,
Act all poor and defeated.
Shout to the mountain some boo-hoo blues,
But I'll stand here and repeat it

I'm an earth rocker!
Everybody hear me now.
I'm an earth rocker!
Everybody get the message?

If you're gonna do it, do it live on stage
Or don't do it at all.
If you're gonna do it, you better take it to the stage,
Or don't do it at all.

I will suffer no evil.
My guitar will guide me through.
I will suffer no evil,
And this time, I want to hear it from you.

I'm an earth rocker!
Everybody hear me now.
I'm an earth rocker!
Everybody get the message?

Break it down,
To brass tacks.
Break it down,
To just the facts.

I don't need your sticky laminate,
I don't need your VIP.
I don't need your validation,
'Cause I wear mine on my sleeve.

So don't look to me for answers,
'Cause I don't got-a-one.
I just came to have a good time.
And I'm gonna have one.

Yes, I've lost many battles,
And even more days.
But if I had to do it over,
I'd do it just the same.

'Cause I'm an earth rocker!
Everybody hear me now.
I'm an earth rocker!
Everybody get the message?

I'm an earth rocker!
Understand?
I'm an earth rocker!
Everybody get the message?

    My Interpretation

Don't be a pretender or talk yourself up, instead put yourself out there and show us!!

In the essence of the song it is about the rock music scene. Get out there and rock, don't talk the talk but walk the walk!!

A great rocking song, they definitely bring it for this song

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
