I get the impression that she isn't literally hiding, but instead that she hides her issues (stresses etc.). That is she mentally hides from him.
In a relationship this can occur often where one of the partners will try to hide their issues / concerns from the other. And no matter the probing it rarely is revealed.
The last line suggests that perhaps the narrator is content to not find out either ... that is they are happy to let her hide more so than actually dealing with what concerns her.
