I lay awake stuck by this fickle thorn
I lay with you so they won't sink in their claws
I lay awake while the beasts and the whores are
Dancing in, dancing in
Dancing in the jaws, jaws, jaws of a landfill

Am I ever gonna let you in before I see it coming systematic in decay

I'm dying to feel what you feel now
You've already been such a sweetheart
And I know we all get scared
We all get scared

Too much head too little heart oh honey
I want your touch such a shame that I am numb honey
Too much head too little heart oh honey
Not meant to be this way

Lover, lover, lover you'll never know
You'll never know because
Lover, lover breathing down my neck
Incendiary breath and still my lover is a burden
Tell me something could you smell my fear
As I lay there cringing on your bed

I'm dying to feel what you feel now
You've already been such a sweetheart
And I know we all get scared
We all get scared

Too much head too little heart oh honey
I want your touch such a shame that I am numb honey
Too much head too little heart oh honey
Not meant to be this way

Maybe my seed found purchase in your soil
It's just a fight, a futile fight to feel connected
I lay awake stuck by this fickle thorn
Instead of tending to it's prick I lay infected

Am I ever gonna let you in before I see it coming systematic in decay

I'm dying to feel what you feel now
You've already been such a sweetheart
And I know we all get scared
We all get scared

Too much head too little heart oh honey
I want your touch such a shame that I am numb honey
Too much head too little heart oh honey
As I lay there cringing on your bed

Too much head too little heart oh honey
Not meant to be this way

I think this song is about an inability to attach to a girl, and that although he is acting a relationship, he is unable to feel a 'love' or even actual 'affection' for the girl.

He wishes he could recipricate the feelings he sees she has for him. But cant.

This song pretty much sums me up with girls ay.

I think a lot of the stuff said here is probably pretty accurate, but a lot isn't.

I think the song is about someone he loves but he's unsure of whether to let this person into his life or whether this person loves him back.

Evidence (How I interpreted the song):

First, the fickle thorn. I think the thorn is supposed to be a metaphor for his love. In case you don't already know, something that is fickle is something that isn't constant, instable, or changing. His love for this person fluctuates, because sometimes he isn't sure whether to put his head or heart first.

Due to past "love"s he knows that if he thinks about it too much he's eventually just going to let it slip away, hence the line "Am I ever gonna let you in before I see it coming? Systematic in decay" where the question indicates he isn't sure whether he's gonna let the person into his life and the "Systematic in decay" indicates that the situation gets worse as time passes by, since he continues using his head more and more and thus will probably let the person slip away.

"Maybe my seed found purchase in your soil" - Perhaps his love has started developing feels for him too. Maybe his love has taken interest in him. "I lay awake stuck by this fickle thorn Instead of tending to it's prick I lay infected" - He simply watches as events in his love life keep unfolding and he takes no steps forward in terms of his love ("Instead of tending to it's prick [...]").

The whole album tends to corrolate to the theme of a struggle between head and heart. Sweet#hart seems to be an intimate love for someone, but being hurt by it once the pleasure has gone away. Besides the song lyrics, I have to say that First Temple is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. Guitars, drums, vocals, lyrics are all perfect.

Amazing touring band. So hardworking in Australia, I'm so glad they are the band that broke through to America.

Can't wait to get this cd.

I think it's about a guy who is trying to convince his girl to have sex with him but she doesn't want to just yet (I'm dying to feel what you feel now, you've already been such a sweetheart, and I know we all get scared, we all get scared).

The part which shows the girl is scared is: Because, lover, lover breathing down my neck Incendiary breath And still my lover is a burden Tell me something could you smell my fear? As I lay there Cringing on your bed

It boils down to "too much head, too little heart," which, as someone mentioned, is probably the prevailing theme of the album -- his ol lady is thinking too much about the situation, instead of letting her heart into the equation.

This song seems to me to be about a man who thinks too much with his head and not his heart, to the point of not being able to enjoy anything in life - love, sex, etc. He got his lover, got what he wanted - but he can't enjoy her because he can't feel a thing.

Appears to me that the thorn is his conscious (or possibly an allusion to Paul's, with the relationship being the source of the pain as opposed to Paul's side). Could be about him experiencing anguish after being with some girl (cringing in her bed) in what he retrospectively sees as a futile attempt to feel connected. He feels guilty about using her, making her breath incendiary and her presence a burden. In stead of changing his ways based on how he feels he continues to be with this girl (laying infected with the thorn as opposed to tending to it in the last line)

"Dancing in dancing in" i think is actually "taunting me, taunting", which makes a little more sense I think there is a male and female perspective in this song. First though, the innuendo! I mean look at all this, it can't be accidental: I lay awake stuck by this fickle thorn- more like fickle dick Am I ever gonna let you in before I see it coming- are we ever gonna bang Too much head but too little heart-obvious Maybe my seed found purchase in your soil-seed, obvious, soil, mouth or vag Instead of tending to its prick I lay infected-didn't service him.

Alright, with those said, look at this song. Combined with what everyone said it almost all makes sense.

    My Interpretation

Am I ever gonna let you in before I see it coming? (it's possible that in a past relation ship he was hurt therefore he doesn't want to let anyone in or get too attatched to them, but for this girl he's willing to risk it all.. but habit makes him push her away whenever the relationhip gets too heated)

Systematic in decay(someone is always getting hurt; decay after decay)

Im dying to feel what you feel now(I'm dying to feel love the way you love me- his girlfriend or the girl says she loves him and is enjoying their get together but he cant)

Youve already been such a sweetheart (in this part he's refering to how even though she's been such a good person and there for him he still doesn't love her)

And I know we all get scared(refering to how they are about to have sex... she may not want to but when some guys do not feel emotionally attached they seek physical attachment)

We all get scared(they are both anxious)

Too much head, but too little heart oh honey(while they are together too many things are occupying his mind and he can't enjoy her)

I want your touch, such a shame that I am numb honey(he wants to feel her and be with her, but he can't feel anything towards her)

Not meant to be this way(this isn't natural)

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
