I am surprised no one has commented on the irony of the lines "I can see that I am going blind". Think about it ... the very definition of "blind" is that you can't see.
In regards to the lyrical theme of the song. Many have suggested drugs (which seems to be a favourite with a lot of "interpretations" of many songs). Personally I am more inclined to agree with @SkullKrusher16. I always interpreted the lyrics as being that you know the truth ("reality"), but you decide to hide from it. Whether that be via the use of drugs, ignorance etc. In the end you are knowingly blinding yourself from reality (and all of your problems, issues, responsibilities etc. etc.)
That is where the irony of seeing that you are going blind ties it. You know that you are "masking" you troubles ... hoping that if you don't see them, they'll disappear.
