To me, this song has themes of an unstable power dynamic. In the very beginning of the song when the girl tells him, "It\'s all in your mind, the darkness and the light, the clock it bleeds for you, but you never got the timing right,".. as commonplace as these cliches of "the darkness and the light" and whatnot may sound, it seems that they are what she believes in. The next line, "I woke you up and I slit the throat of your confidence," is him explicitly telling her that her simple platitudes are stupid and metaphorically "slitting the throat" of what she believes in. Later in the song, we see the lines, "I\'m the one for you, \'cause I know all the dirty things you like to do. I\'m the fear in your eyes, I\'m the fire in your flies. I\'m the sound that\'s buzzing \'round your head." These lines are powerful to me personally and I can\'t help but love them, but by them we can see that our speaker now very much has the advantage in the power struggle, and most likely always did. |
