I agree with Iano. I think it is about the decline and break-up of the band. The chorus is very reminiscient like Gilmour wishes for the good old days before he and Roger's differences tore the band apart.

On a related note, I can see now why Gilmour didn't exactly get along with Waters. I mean, how would you feel if the principal song writer kept writing about how he wished the former guitar player was still around? I know I would be pretty miffed.

@Paradox I don’t believe Waters was taking a poke at Gilmour when saying how much he missed Syd Barratt. The band loved Syd, hence ‘Wish you were here’, and the High Hopes video climaxing with that enormous cast of Syd being borne across the landscape outside Cambridge ????
