Lyric discussion by ollie19

For me, the meaning of this song is related to my recent breakup. I think it can also apply to any relationship, ongoing or over, in which you feel that the person doesn't care to really know you, to ask those open-ended questions, to at least attempt to understand you.

"Give me everything you've got" ---> I wanted you to reciprocate this. I wanted you to try as much as I did.

"I'll be everything I'm not" ---> I was willing to sacrifice, I was willing to change parts of myself to please him.

Now this is the lyric that I really resonate with, though it is simple: "Count the questions on one hand you don't ask me what I planned Strike me down Should have asked me what went wrong" It's the anger that they don't ask you questions. You want to spend time with me, to have a companion, but you don't ask me what I plan, what I dream of, what I really think. If you didn't want me to end all of this, you "should have asked me what went wrong." Instead, you make assumptions, you don't care to find the truth.

"Should have stayed away too long" ---> The wording of this line is interesting, and I think it could be interpreted in many ways. I see it as, stay away from me, I deserve better.
