He realizes his time was spent trying to self medicate his issues, but contradictory to this, he realizes the drugs just created more problems and realizes he has wasted all his time blinding his reality. Now faced with reality, he is reluctant to not be dependent on drugs because he feels a fatalism with his past life as time wasted, and feels too impatient to solve his problems for the future. But he feels the consequences of coming off drugs will make him feel inadequate to take on the future since he felt safe in drugs in the feeling of drugs.
